Default Collapsed Lower Water Hose

Have been trying to fix an overheating problem for sometime. Car usually overheats at highway speeds or climbing hills. Today I noticed, for the first time, that the bottom hose flattens when the engine is revved.

There is no stiffener in the hose...is it made this way? The vacuum appears to be so strong, that a new hose, without stiffeners, is likely to behave the same way. What is a likely solution?

That's the dilemma....replace it with what? The new genuine Honda hose seems to be just as flimsy as what is already on the car. The upper hose is strong and sturdy but the lower is soft and weak...is this by design? Is there some other malfunction that could be creating excessive vacuum?

Go to local auto parts store and get a replacement. I have never had a prob. with any of my hoses doing this so I'm sure your hose is just bad.

That's what i'm trying to do, but i'm having difficulties locating one with internal stiffeners. Recently, I have been approaching fellow accord owners and asking them about overheating problems...in every single case overheating occurs during highway driving. I'm starting to think that the higher rpm's are causing the lower hose to collapse and that this is a manufacturing/design defect.

Well I'm thinking the radiator flow is poor, and the lower hose is going under Vacuum.
Also you are overheating at speeds above 20 MPH when there is good air flow over the radiator fins.

I agree with Dude. The lower radiator hose isn't supposed to see any vacuum. That would mean the radiator is getting plugged.

I have read the lower hose spring is only use to prevent the hose from collapsing for the way the cooling system is bled at the factory and that is why a lot of replacement hoses don’t have them.
