Default 95 accord trans. slipping 2nd to 3rd gear

I couldn't find a definitive answer using the search. I have 95 accord EX, 2.2 vtec, auto trans., 160K, clean-maintained trans. fluid.

Problem: While engine cold, the transmission slips or revs from 3K rpm to 4 rpm while shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. It doesn't slip as much when warm and hardly slips when the engine is hot.

No blinking lights. Any suggestions?

Any work done recently on throttle body or transmission? Throttle cable too long is listed as a cause of 3-4 rpm flare in symptom-component chart of 94 Accord Shop Manual. Even if no work, it may be worth adjusting the cable to cause throttle plate linkage movement and transmission throttle control arm to begin moving simultaneously.

Suggest downloading the 94-97 Manual from this site, if you don't have an Accord Shop Manual for your vehicle. This will allow the adjustment process to be performed correctly.

There are other possible reasons for your symptoms, however they all relate to internal hydraulic component faults which will be difficult to repair.

If you did not use Honda ATF, I would suggest replacing the ATF w/ Honda ATF.

good luck
