Default brake fluid leaking out bottom of resevoir

On my 91 accord, there is brake fluid leaking out the bottom of the resevoir, where you fill the brake fluid. I have tried tightening down the resevoir, its fastened on w a clamp and flat head bolt. I dont want to overtighten though or it may brake it. Is there a seal in the bottom of the resevoir where the fill bucket sits ontop of the mastr cylinder? I wanted to know from u guys before I take it off.

Also, will I have to bleed the brakes or do any thing additional after I get this fixed? thnx everyone

thought it was funny that there are 20,000 members and I get 8 views and no posts in 7 hours.

Guess I will inspect this myself.

thnx, I cleaned it all up and put some gasket sealant on it, should be okay.

Do I have to bleed brakes or anything, or can I just refill? There was still fluid in the mast cylind top.

No need to bleed the brakes, unless you pumped the pedal or worked the master cylinder with no fluid in the resevoir.

If you haven't filled it full of brake fluid, wipe out rest of fluid and get the sediment out of the bottom of it..

well, I tried fixing it w gasket sealant and it leaked worse, so Im going to go back to step 1 and just try to tightn it down as tight as it will go aftr I get all the gasket off. If it leaks Ill b looking for a replacement cup.

I did drive it for a bit with just a bit of fluid on the brim of the mcylinder, I dont think I messed the brake systm up, but as far as clean fluid, I will flush the systm at a latr time.

I hope I just need to tightn it down more!

The parts breakdown doesn't even show the reservoir as a separate part. Since it keeps leaking, I would check real carefully for cracks or something like that.

thnx for the post, and Im finding out that the mc and the cup are one part- I cant pick up the cup at the parts store without buying thw mc.

Im going to call the honda dealer and see if I can get the cup, if not Ill have to vivist a yard like pull a part.

I found a crack in the cup . I dont know if it was always there or if it happened when I was tightning it down but oh well.
