98 Accord Dies after startup/Cylinder misfire code
I have a 1998 Accord Ex Coupe. Has about 270,000 km on it.
Recently ive been having this problem with starting up.
What happens is when I start the car the rpm idles very low (car shakes more than normal) and dies unless I push and hold the gas. If I push the gas and hold the rpm high, the idle will become normal after 30 seconds of so.
This issue only happens around 1 out of 10 times of starting the engine. 9 out of 10 times it starts fine.
After the last time this happened, my engine light came on. The error is "Cylinder Misfire".
After reading some forums, it sounds like it could be the following:
- Bad spark plug wires
- Distributor cap
- Egr port needs to be cleaned
- Fuel pump
If anyone has any ideas about this, I would appreciate your advise.
Thank you

V-6 or 4-cyl??
How old are the spark plugs? What brand? (NGK I hope)
Remove the sparkplug wires & look for oil down in the sparkplug tubes. If so, replace the valve cover gasket set.
You can check for bad plug wires or distributor cap by starting it cold, in complete darkness, & look for arcing. Even a dull blue glow would indicate bad component (whatever is glowing).

I too have the problem. I have a 98 accord sedan. 4 cylinder. At 163k. My car had always had problems running correctly. It has multiple misfires, and I have to rev my car in order to get it going on first gear and reverse. It also lags a lot, seems like the air is not flowing right. When it first starts up correctly, it drives normal but when I get to 2nd gear and up, it starts to choke and power is not there. Rpm won't go past 4000 -5000. I have a video of how it starts up. My maintenance lights flashes for four to five seconds then disappears. I flushed my training oil and change my oil on a regular base 3kmiles. Anyone have an idea wgat to do? Here are my OEM codes
