Backfiring upon start up. 99 3.0L.
My cousin just bought an immaculate 99 accord and I help him out with the mechanical side of it. Just wondering if there are any common issues to cause a small backfire when starting up sometimes?
I'm going to try and change fuel filter and check vac lines. Spark plugs and leads were replaced around 15,000km ago so they shouldn't be the issue but I'll check plugs anyway. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.
Also what oil do people use? Would there be any issues with semi-synthetic 40w 10?
Also the previous owner reckons accords run worse on 98 octane than 91 but myself, i live off 98 so I've told my cousin to use 98 also. Is it true that 98 octane is bad though? thanks.
Also with the central locking, it wasn't working when we bought it, i checked the fuse and there wasn't even one there for some reason, put it in and it's like the other locks are sticky and only work sometimes with the central locking? Actuators?

Make sure all spark plug leads are correctly routed, if engine is missing.
Suggest verifying cam and crank pulley both align simultaneously to TDC.
Check owner's manual or get a pdf emanual from automanualsource.com for this vehicle ($22) for recommended oil, usually 5w-30.
Check behind gas fill cover for regular or premium fuel recommendation.
Door lock actuators are likely faulty. When they become faulty they tend to continuously try to actuate and run battery down while car is parked. This is probably why fuse was pulled. New actuators are cheap, but a bit of PIA to install (door panel, access issues, and door latch mechanism must be removed.
good luck

See following recent thread where door lock control unit was cause of door locks cycling. Mulitpie door locks w/ same problem would suggest perhaps door lock control unit is more likely.
