Best oil and oil filter to use in my 2012 Accord LX?
Hello all! I'm a newbie here and after searching through threads last night and today I haven't found an definitive answer to my question(s) so I decided to post seeking some advice.
I got my (first) car on Thursday which is a 2012 Accord LX that was a personal lease car and has under 62,000 miles. I have to take the car back to the dealership to be detailed Monday and I plan to ask if they know when the last time the oil was changed. If they can't tell me I plan to buy the oil and the filter also to change it.
I'll be doing the oil change myself but I do NOT have the owners manual (didn't come with the car). The cap says to use 0W 20/oil but I've read on many sites that using 5W 20/oil would be better for the engine in the long run. I don't want to cause engine trouble, I'd like to avoid them and keep the engine going for as many miles as possible. What is the better choice when it comes to oil? Is there a certain brand that would be 'better' to use? Also, is there a 'better' brand of oil filter to use?
If you need more information to give me better advice please ask. I'd be happy to answer since I'd like to keep my new car up and running for a very long time.

There is no definitive answer; anybody who tries to give you one is a religious zealot, and as such, should be ignored.
The fact is, if you follow Honda's recommendations you cannot go wrong as the engine will easily outlast the rest of the car.
