Default Do PCV valves in 04 Accord 4 cyl ever need to be replaced?

Hi
I noticed a bit of oil consumption in my tailpipe, so in my checking, I would pinch the hose with the engine running, and the idle did change. My motor has 100K miles on it.
Anyhow, I called my local Honda dealer to get a price on a pcv valve for my 2.4L engine.
The part costs 40 Canadian dollars and I was told they hardly ever need to be replaced.

Should I simply replace it anyway or maybe try to clean it?

Thanks

Seems like anything with moving parts (like the spring-loaded plunger inside the PCV valve) is a candidate for wearing out. I never had to do that on my 2003, so don't really know what better way to check.

Take it out & see whether it's full of oily gunk?

Sounds reasonable, do you know if that simply pulls out of the water jacket area or do I need a wrench? Thanks

Wow that's high. PCV valve for my 2000 Accord (2.3L) is $2.98 american.
I just searched for PCV valve from AutoZone (in the US) for a 2004 Accord with a 2.4L- $13.99.

Can you not buy one online and save a buch of $?
PCV valve is definitely something you should NOT have to buy from the dealer.
It is my understanding that they should be replaced periodically. I replaced mine when my car was around 110K or so.

#2 is the PCV valve screwed into the alternator/waterpump bracket. Looks like you need a wrench to remove it. It doesn't actually go into the waterjacket, but into the air-space in the crankcase.
