87 octane. Anything more is a waste of $$$ Car actually makes LESS HP on higher octane fuel since the j30a has no means to advance the timing (does not have a knock sensor)

The Japanese engineer who designed the engine actually said that the V-6 will make 10 more horsepower on premium fuel. I posted his original comments in this forum somewhere ( I think) but I can't find it. I would still go with 87 or 89 if I owned it.

Wrong car my friend 1998-2002 accord V6 will not make any additional power and as a matter of fact, they loose 4hp and 15ft lbs of torque. You are thinking of the '03 and newer accords.....that can make use of the higher octane fuel.

you can look up Car and Driver Nov 01 where the do test a 01 accord V6

ok heres something to wrap your noodle around. was looking in my haynes and chiltons manuals and they both said that the minimum octane rating for my car (92 accord lx) was 91 octane...ok..? so where on gods green earth do I find 91 octane gas, I live in South Carolina all we have here is 87, 89, and 93 octane.

has to be a misprint..... cars that require Premium fuel usually say it on the gas guage or in the case of my acura it states it on the inside of the cap cap cover and most definately the owner's manual will tell you.

aalrighty...well i dont have an owner's manual and nowhere on the car does it tell what the minimum octane should be used, just unleaded fuel only. I found that strange that both my manuals said the same thing....so where is 91 octane available just out of curiosity

i have a side question. While the higher octane doesnt do much for HP, are the claims that it cleans the engine true or poppycock?

Drummer;
Haynes manuals are published in England, right? Octane numbers are different over there.

Fenix;
About cleaning, maybe it used to be true. It seems some gas companies put better (more?) cleaners in their high-octane gasoline. I don't think that's really true any more. Maybe never was...
