Is the fuel pump going out?
Car is a 1998 Honda Accord coupe with V6
Car barely starts sometimes and then sputters when we first take off. We took it to Honda and they recreated the problem once but said they don't want to try anything till they know for sure what the problem is. I'm guessing the fuel pump is going out. The car has 160K miles on it and we've put 140K of those on it. We bought it slightly used in 2001. We've only had 1 other problem since we've owned it so it's been a great car. Any thing I should look for to know for sure if the pump is going out? I'm not a honda expert but I hope to learn. I've done all the mod work on my truck so I'm learning how to turn wrenches lol.
Thanks, Jeremy

RE: Is the fuel pump going out?
Honda fuel pumps are reliable but do occasionally fail. A failing fuel pump stops the car usually, and I've never heard of one that's partially working enough to actually start the car but cause poor performance. A blocked fuel filter, or failing fuel pressure regulator might cause this syptom. Why do you suspect fuel pump? Have you measured fuel pressure?
good luck

When it does it see if you can tell if it's getting spark and fuel... How many miles are on the car and what/when was the last time you did some tune up work on it?
