I'm not sure but I would be willing to bet its not a good thing. Especially if you let out the clutch. I used to have a jeep and whenever anyone was riding me I could stick it in reverse just enough to get the backup lights to come on. That was always fun.

Naruto, you would have definitely known if you actually went into reverse or just "selected" reverse. Any combination of loud noises and smoke would indicate you going into reverse. It's also pointless to shift into neutral when coming toa stop.
Cypres, manuals have a reverse lock-out that won't allow you to shift into reverse unless you're stopper or going very slow. Autos will throw the lights on in reverse, but will shift into neutral if you accidentally shift into reverse.

Agreed but as long as you depress the clutch and kept it there your fine and as said it probably wouldn't let you anyway, they tried it on mythbusters and it won't let you as a safety feature. same for both autos and manuals. I've done it on an auto myself and it just stays in neutral.
