Default Help removing rotors

I have a 93 Accord sedan, 10th Anniversary Edition, and I'm trying to replace the front disk brake rotors. Usually the rotor is bolted to the wheel hub, but these rotors are behind the hubs. It looks like I need to remove the spindle nut to get the hub off, but I have tried all day and can't get them off. Are they reverse threaded? I can't find anything that says they are, but you never know. Any suggestions before I take a long pipe and try to force the nut off?

Thanks.

The spindle (axle nut) is punched on the side to prevent the bolt from turning. Use a large screwdriver to make sure the nut is punched out. You will probably need a breaker bar with a large pipe over it to get enough leverage to take the nut off.

There is a rotor writeup in our DIY section that you should read.

The rotors will come off with the hub assembly and are held in by the four or five bolts on the front. The hub is bolted to the knuckle from behind the knuckle (inside part of knuckle) with four bolts. Once those are off, the hub can be stuck in the knuckle assembly. There are special tools that you can buy to help hammer out the hub (if stuck). A hockey puck is about the same diameter as the tool Desert talks about and would be a cheaper alternative.

The rotors on these accords are major PIA to replace!

I did bend out the nut, but I guess I will need a long pipe to put some torque on the nut. Looks like I will need a hub puller too. Anyone local have one that I can borrow tomorrow?

These are called trapped rotors. I have used two heavy chisels and a friend to hold one while you smash his hand with the hammer and not yours. After removing the four outer bolts I hammered back and forth, the chisels acted as wedges and pulled the center hub from the car, then the rotor would come off. Bolting everything back together pressed the hub back in. This only took about 15 minutes, back and forth evenly, between the outer hub and the rotor.

Villard: Did you read the DIY that PA mentioned?

Yes, but I couldn't the dang things off. I got a hub puller from Advanced Auto, but it just pushed the axle back through the hub. The hub never budged. Finally gave up and I'm going to take it to a Honda specialist. They said they can machine the rotors without removing them

Insist that they do a runout and a parallelism test after they turn the rotors on the car, for your own satisfaction, put the wheel and tire back on and spin the tire around and listen for rubbing of the rotor and pads after the wheel has been torqued back on properly also.

hopefully it is the on car lathe,, it will resurface the rotors real good ,, And there is no need to insist on anything ,, if properly machined rotors will be fine,I have machined hundreds of them with the on car lathe , never had a problem ,,,, Just as long as they do not go below wear limit once done ..

Desert, I respect your work, but I would not vouch for every on car lathe, that is all I am saying, could be some kid fresh out off the street, who knows. If they garantee their work, then let it go as is, I will concede to that sir.
