Default Malfunction Indicator Lamp On

I have only had the car for about 6k miles. It has 110k on it. I have already checked the gas cap, and driven a few times since. I am open for advice on what my next move should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Code P0401 EGR system fault (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
The ECM has detected too little flow on the EGR system.

Probable Causes
1. Blocked passage on EGR system
2. Failed EGR valve
3.
EGR solenoid faulty
4. Failed EGR pressure sensor where applicable
5. Failed EGR position sensor where applicable

Any one have any ideas on where to go from here?

I had that happen to me a few months ago... I had just swapped out my header and afterwards when i was smashing around that light came on and my car started bogging out @ idle,,,, i took it in and they found a piece of carbon build up from in the engine lodge in the EGR Valve... The thing controls ur air fuel mixture i think...

So maybe I can take the EGR valve off and see if anything is lodged in there? Clean it out somehow?

Havent done this myself.

Usually carbon buildup inEGRpassages in the intake manifold. Best way is remove manifold, but maybe you can clean it in place?

Anyone else have any input before I tear the EGR off and look for black crap clogging it up?

There is a thread on cleaning the EGR ports, but I am unable to access it. It may be too old.
