Default Startup woes

Hey all,

I've searched the forum and found a lot of useful stuff but can't seem to pinpoint my problem. So about two weeks ago, my 2000 3.0 V6 Accord started idling a bit rough. It was jumping around between, say, 300 and 1000 then eventually landing around 700. Yay. Anyway, I did a tune up (plugs, air filter and GumOut) and the problem seemed to have stabilized.

BUT! Today, after the car ran perfect all day, I made a 20minute stop and when I started the engine, it just DIED! It did this for about 5 minutes (start, die, start, die) and then I started it up and the idle went to 700 and ran like a champ. My only thought is that perhaps the GumOut spent a little too much time in a fuel injector and just took a bit of persuasion to get some gas in there...Any thoughts?

Thanks for reading!
Michael

You will have to diagnose the problem when the car is not starting.

Does your check engine light turn on when driving? Stop by a parts store and have them scan for codes. Post any on here. They start with the letter P and have four number, ie P1234.

Starting/stalling problems are usually due to lack of spark or lack of fuel.

For spark: When the car is running, try shaking the key to see if the car will stall out. If you have a timing light, you can hook it up to each wire and see if you are getting enough spark to flash the light.

For fuel: When the car is stalling, listen carefully when you turn the key to the II position (don't try to start the car). The fuel pump will turn on for about two seconds in the middle of the clicks that you hear. It is a faint buzz or whirling sound that comes from the back seat area. Get in the habit of doing when you first try to start the car.
