noise when turning steering wheel

Default noise when turning steering wheel

ok whats wrong with my car
when the car is ON and i turn the steering wheel it feels really hard and it makes noise like grinding

but when i turn the car off and turn the wheel it turns fine with no noise so wtf ?

Does it happen all the time or udner certain condition? i.e. after rain, cold days, etc.

SOunds like a problem with your power steering. Have you checked the fluid level?? Any leakage??

What about belt tension on the power steering pump. Any squealing?

i dont know the car been pared for a month and before that i rememver hearing it just for 2seconds a day now i turned the car on after a month and it would stop and its crazy loud ill take a video next time sounds like metal on metal... someone told me iots the balljoint but when the car is off i can turn it just fine so it cant be the ball joint so i thas to be the power steerring pump but how do i find out for sure because there is fluid in there and i can see the fluid moving around in there so i have no idea

Well belt squeal sounds like nails on a chalkboard or metal on metal. Sounds like maybe the belt might have enough slack or is worn enough to squeal when the pump is running.

so, it's really hard to turn the wheel with the car running, but when you shut the car off it's EASY to turn the wheel? [:-]
