In and out of OVERDRIVE on a '93

Default In and out of OVERDRIVE on a '93
My '93 4-cyl LX has been quickly going in and out of overdrive (D4) at hwy speed. Is there a sensor to replace or something that needs to get cleaned out?

I say "overdrive" it might be the lockup torque converter....

Maybe adjustment of the downshift cable, from throttlebody down to tranny?

I just spoke to a Hon Mech and he said the O2 sensor might be leaning out the mix. Lean surge?

Mine had the same issue. turned out it was a combination of the transmission fluid and the temperature sensor going bad. I did the customary fill-drain 3 timer and replaced the sensor and now it stays in overdrive.

I agree with the suggestion to replace your thermostat. A very small drop in engine temp may prevent the tranny torque converter from locking up.

It's normal to go in and out of lock up at hwy speeds. I'd explain further but then I'll get a "404" error

Is the D4 light blinking? If yes, get the TCU code and post back. This will provide guidance on fault.
