Default put 93 octane in Accord

Well my brother took my car to worka week ago and i ask him to fill up the tank becuase he works in NJ and its cheaper there then here in new york. Anyway he fills it up but he fills it with 93. He said it was a mistake becuase he usally fills 93 with his benz. Anyway i take the car out yesturday and i notice something different with it. As i go into the very high RPM's I notice its very much smoother. I knw i read lots of post here with putting 93 octane is a waste of money. But i was jusyt wondering does when vtec engages does it increase or advaned the timing at all. OrIs tyhis just all in my head and the car runs the same on 87 as 93. oh by the way my engine doesnt knock or anything with 87.

If it were a V-6I would say the gain is positive but the 4 banger? I doubt it but I suppose its possible.

it should not make a bit of difference but you can try to switch between 87 and 93 for the next 2 fuel tanks fill,, and compare,, if you still notice better performance with the 93, then use it ..

if your car is running "better"93 octane, you need to find the problem andfix it....the 98-02 accord V6 actuallyLOOSES HP when runon premium fuel. This can be verified by C&D November 01 issue where they did some dyno pulls.

any V6 accord before 03 model year lacks a knock sensor and therefore cannot make use of higher octane fuel.

Honda added a knock sensor to theV6 in 03 and this without a doubt allows forsome of that extra 40HP since they can run the engine closer to it's maximum performance without fear of detonation (pinging). I would guess that it accounts for maybe 10 of those ponies........
