i have a 98 accord v6 coupe, would like to know if i need to stick w/ the recommended V rating for my tires or i can go use a T rated tire. Currently i've driven 45k+ on a set of H rated pepboys touring tires w/o much problem, but they were a lil noisy on the freeway. It's time to replace them and i would like to know if the speed rating is critical to the overall performance of my vehicle. I rarely drive 90mph; mainly 70...
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

 

You will be good with even standard S rated tires. As long as you dont regularly haul BUTT

I don't see the goodyear tires mentioned, cheapst goodyr i see is the Goodyear Eagle GT-HR for 90

 

It's not always absolutely true, but generally the lower speed ratings have softer sidewalls, so they mightfeel a bit mushier.

If the car is CAPABLE of exceeding 130mph, some tire shops will be afraid of liability if they install lower-rated tires. They have to trust you about not driving that fast.

 

It's ok to use lower rated tires. Just atleast get a good brand. Michelins r good.

 

Just dont go below the speed rateing that your original tires were rated at...

i saw always go with the recommended speed rating for your vehicle. i remember honda had yokohama's with a t rating and i didn't buy it for them i was all set and ready to buy it from them. i went to sam's club and bought some good bf goodrich traction ta's. also, these tires i got can carry a little bit more weight with the load index being at the 91 rating instead of 89 (p195/65/89H) is what tire size is recommended for my vehicle. i miss the michelin's that were originally on there. had dunlop sports put on there which didn't last long, but am satisfied with the traction ta's. good luck for your search for the right tire!

 

I'm in agreement to stick with the speed rating that came originally on the car. I have noticed thoughthat the online tire stores all offer H rated tires for the cars that came with V's and have no qualms about selling them. Due to the H's being less $$ I wonder if it's really a bad thing to step down a notch. I would not go below H under any circumstances, T is just too low on the scale.

 

T is definitely too low on the scale for a H-rated original tire for a car. I am pretty sure you might not have the same handling when you step down to a lower rated tire.
