Default Tranny taking too long to shift?

So I finally decided to go redline my car today. Put it in 1st and floored it. Threw it into 2nd at 6k rpm. This is where I got my big surprise. Instead of shifting at around 6.3k it didn't shift until almost 7k. The car continued to accelerate during that time. After this I put it in D3 and floored it and the shift between 1st and 2nd was normal. I know it takes longer to shift when I do it manually but never from 6k to almost 7k. BTW I just changed the tranny fluid twice when I bought the car 3k miles ago in July.

I tap 7000 in 2nd gear all the time when I floor it. The tranny does it by itself in D4! It gets real close to the rev limiter, but this is normal for my car .... no problems and I have the POS tranny with the warantee extension. have you redlined it before this? Is this something new?

This is completely new to me. My redlines at 6.25k. True in D3 and D4 the revlimiter kicks in and it shifts just after 6k. But I wouldn't think taking almost 1k to shift is normal.

The start of the red zone on the tach has nothing to do with the operation of the car. Like I said, mine hits 7000 in D4 by itself. The rev limiter is at 7000 and will cause the rpms to bounce. This does not happen just after 6k, nor does it have anything to do with the tranny of shifter position. At least on my car, the rpm's are building so fast at that range that it does take about 800 rpm's to shift gears. If I'm upshifting manually, I shift at 6200 rpm's to just barely tap 7000 and not bounce.

If this were something new, or a change in behavior of the car, I'd be concerned, but since there is no point of referance and since it drives normal for you under other your normal driving conditions, I think that you just haven't rev'd that high and were surprised by how it behaves.

To reiterate, from your descriptions I think that your engine is fine.

If there is anything unusual about the car's behavior that is different than how it had behaved previously, please post this info and we'll figure it out the problem.

Well your car redlines higher than mine at 6.75k i think. Also I've done this many times in the past with my dad's 01 accord LX auto, shifting at 6k from 1st into 2nd manually and it shifts at 6.3k.
