yesterday my girlfriends 2000 accord ex 3.0 started acting up, bad shake going up hill and misfireing codes show cylinders 2,5,6 changed coils and put in a can of dry gas, same results as before, any ideas what else iit could be

 

Most likely the engine has lost a coil. I felt mine start shaking a month or so ago, and when the shop ran the codes it showed up as three cylinders. I told them that was impossible as it only felt like one. I had them move the coils around and track which cylinder was misfiring, and sure enough, it was only one coil which was bad.

it only seems to be mis firing when applying fuel going up hill. any chance the filter could be plugged as its in the tank, cars never run below half, im pulling my hair out with this thing, was told by garage it could have skipped a tooth on the timing belt..is that a poss.

 

Unless you have at the bare minimum of a quarter of a million miles on your car then it is highly unlikely the filter is pugged, and the timing belt jumping a tooth is pretty unlikely as well. If the codes are showing misfires, then you really need to look at the coils.

 

How may miles are on the spark plugs? I think the maintenance schedule is to change the plugs every 105K miles. Use only the NGK PZFR5F-11 spark plugs that you can pick up at most part stores. Atleast inspect the spark plugs.

Does the 2000 have the coil over plug, or does this still have a distributor? Honda switched around 2000. Inspect the distributor cap and rotor, if you have one.

 

plugs changed 8000 miles ago, going to check them again after te rain stops, has coil over plugs

 

finally got it thanks all for the help, i played with switching coils around here it was number 4 that was bad however when it thru codes it said 2 5 and 6 but oh well runs like a champ again chnged the plugs too even though they only had about 8000 miles on them they looked fouled from misfiring.. thanks again everyone

 

Just for grins, to explain the issue about misfiring when climbing a hill...

Possibly the coil was marginal, weak, but still fired a weak spark. Mixture is more difficult to ignite as the pressure gets higher. So closed-throttle, high-vacuum in the manifold, it doesn't misfire.
