Default cooling fan not on at idle for 93 accord

I have a 5 speed 93 accord, 2.2. I am overheating at idle due to cooling fan not coming on. I know the fan itself works as it comes on after running the car and parking it. I switched the pw window relay with the fan relay, no better. Fuses are good. Anyone seen this before?

Do both fans turn on when the a/c is turned on?

The most likely cause is the temperature switch A that is on the thermostat housing needs replaced. In the DIY common threads sticky has a link for an explanation.

The OEM part number is 37760-P00-003.

If you want to avoid overheating, you can short that connector to the sensor using a piece of wire with the car turned off. When you start the car, the fans should run all of the time. This is better than overheating and is a temporary fix until you replace the part.

If shorting that connector doesn't make the fans work when the engine is running, then you will have to troubleshoot further.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try. In traffic jams been running defrost heat to bring temp down. Just too dang hot for that in the summer. Thanks for the info.

You can run the a/c as well. You already verified that the fans work with the a/c on.

Well, I have tried that but for what ever reason the defrost heat seems to do a better job of cooling it down? But for sure both fans come on with the a/c.

Humm, even with the ac on (both fans running) the car will still start to overheat?

I that is true there may be another issue.

Another issue like a radiator with obstructed water-flow passages. Or a lot of crud on the radiator, blocking air flow.

Thanks for all the input. Had to replace the radiator yesterday due to a crack in the neck. Was gonna replace temp switch A, but found it un-plugged? Plugged in in hopes the cooling fan would come on, but to my surprise it didn't! Guess I need to go ahead and get one. By the way, how exactly can I short out that connector for temp switch A at the thermostat before buying a new one?
