Is there any R-12 freon in Miami?
I've got a '92 Accord LX that just ran out of R-12 freon in Miami. Since I never converted to the new stuff I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can find some R-12 here, and not run the risk of ruining the air compressor by having it converted. Car runs fine otherwise.
Thanks.

R-12 I believe is illeagle to sell or buy in the USA anymore..so I don't think you will find any except from someone who will ACT like they don't know this..

It's only illegal to vent freon to the atmosphere. Any A/C shop should be able to recharge your system but it might be wise to switch over to one of the newer refrigerants.
Call around and check.

r 134 freon wont ruin your compressor. the adapter costs 5 bucks at walmart and the can of freon is 7 bucks at wal mart. a can of r 12 can only be puchased by someone who has a license to by that freon and it would cost at least 200 bucks

Its only illegal to manufacutre R-12, buying and selling it is totally legal but it is quite expensive. I would go to R-134A since it is easier and cheaper to find refrigerant for it. As far as i know, all you have to do is to change a bunch of o-rings.

and make sure to add PAG oil for r-134a in the compressor, keep in mind that r-134 a will be a few degrees warmer than r-12 ,, also the pressure will be a bit higher and if you do not replace the o-rings eventually they will leak,, there are different o-rings for r-12 and r-134a ,,,,
As for r-12 ,, I am not sure you can get the small cans anymore ,,, but a shop can still easily buy the 30lb container ,, you have to be certified in a/c or one should not be able to buy it ..
My advice,,,, if you got a leak on the a/c system and are not fixing it,, go to r-134a ,, it is a lot cheaper when you lose it,,
if no leaks ,, i would stay with r-12 .. it is more expensive ,,
but if you ran out of fren in your system sounds like there might be a leak............you need to add some DYE in the a/c sytem and chk to see where the leak is at ,,
