Default Back to an Accord After 3 Years

After being away for three years while I drove an 8th generation Civic, I have come back home to Accord once again.

In late 2005' i got laid off and in the spring of 2006' I found a new job but it was 55 miles from my home. I soon found that my 2003 Blazer was costing me way too much to drive to work (even at 2006' prices), so I traded the wifes minivan in on a 2004' Accord EX-L V6 with only 20k on it and fell in love with that car. I've rode Honda motorcycles for over 30 years and found them to be very reliable compared to the other brands so moving to a Honda car was not hard.

I drove this Accord EX for two years and put another 60k on it however once the price of gas got to $4.00 a gallon in 2008', I decided to sacrifice power and comfort for fuel mileage and traded in the Accord for a new 2008' Civic EX. My average mileage imediatly jumped. This Civic served me well and averaged 34 mpg while cruised 75 mph to work and back.

Lately though despite the high gas prices, I've longed for the comfort and power of a V6 Accord and yesterday after spotting a new non-leather V6 EX at an out of town dealer, the wife and I went to test drive it. Once I sat my large 6'3" 280 lb frame in it and felt that 271hp power on the freeway, I knew we had to own it so after some dealing (with documents to back up the value of my premo condition Civic), we reached a deal and got to drive that Baby Blue Accord home.

You say why would I want cloth seats? Well my last Accord had leather seats and during the hot summer months, I usually ware shorts to work and I grew to hate the way my bare legs stick to those hot leather seats on our 100 degree days.

This large volume dealer informed me that V6 EX Accords with cloth interior are likely the rarest of all Accords since most are ordered with 4 cylinder engines and the one that are ordered with a V6 usually get leather due to popular demand.

First Impressions after 24 hours:
Very comfortable ride and the 3.5 V6 has noticably more power than the 3.0 version I had in my 2004'.
Very suprized to find that the VCM kicks into ECO Mode and runs on 4 cylinders even when while driving down the freeway with the cruise control set at 75 mph! (My new 2011 5.3 z71 4X4 Silverado has a similar system to shift from V8 to V4 mode however this only happens when you let off of the throttle and will not do this when cruising down the highway). This is likely because the truck weighs 5000 lbs and the Accord is only 3500 lbs.

I am curios to hear from other V6 owners with VCM to hear what kind of mileage they are getting.

Enjoy the Accord. I purchased mine a month ago and I've been happy so far.
