Default Dads 1979 Dodge Lil' Red Express....

Well a few weeks ago my dad double stacked his air filters and wanted me to come with him to test her out! Stopped by a gravel pit and he manually shifted up (they are all automatics) and let me tell you....I have never ever felt such acceleration in my entire lifetime! Squealing the tires and flying! Holy Shiite! Lemme tell you.....It was a rush of adrenaline! I knew the truck was fast but not that fast!

A little history I suppose.
My dad bought one in Benton Harbor, Michigan (worst place ever) a year before I was born and since we were poor he used it as his DD. From then, to Shelbyville, IN, to both places in IL it bascially sat. But in this house he began working one it, fixing the rust and replacing the footwells, revarnishing the oak but finally it was obvious we didnt have time for it. So we sold it to a guy and his dad as a project car. About a year later, we bought a restored Lil Red (Same year) from Wisconsin with some mild upgrades like a little higher compression and such. Then about a year or two ago, we say a Lil Red on ebay and knew it was our old one because it had the same primer around the holes for the wood trim that my dad has taken off and primered, with a totally restored engine that looked amazing. Anyways, I forget how much it sold for but we always thought that was awesome. So now, we've got our sweet Lil red, and we have the last NOS chrome headlight housing and grille ever produced so thats saweet too! The only thing diff. is the wheels on this are the same design except aluminum and larger and we havent put the chains on the tail gate b/c the guy in Wisconsin couldnt find them. I just love how its the first truck with chrome semi stacks and an oak wood bed. A first for all companies. Chyeah!

Anyways, its just amazing to me since I have always remembered having one since I was a kid and we still have one...except it runs like a beast! Besides, it can beat the same year Corvette in the 1/8th or 1/4 mile According to car and driver. Take that Chevy! muwhaha

These arent the best pics, but these are the only ones I have on my new computer. And since its getting crappy out itll be in the garage til sunny days.

Heres a few picks.

DUDE! When we were in highschool a little fresh vegtable store across the street had one of these... when we turned 15 my friend always talked about buying it..

when we turned 16, he did... and yeah, he suped it up and got it running great... the original owner had cleaned it all up already, he just modded some parts...

really cool looking ride, definitely got the girls and ppl's attention..

hope you have fun with it

Very nice... My dad has a '74 Datsun 260z with a souped up 350 in it. Its painted Viper Blue with white stripes and has a 700r4 tranny.... That thing is so badass. Fastest car i've ever driven. It runs low 11's in the 1/4

I would love to trade my 95 dak for a 'lil red or midnight express. Too cool!

As I understand it, these things were built for speed. The environmental standards placed on cars did not apply to trucks, so these were marketed as a muscle car since the muscle cars were losing power to meet the new regulations... or something like that.
