How old an Accord/Census on 93 and below Accords
Hi!
I have seen bunches of squared-off Accords (ie; 1993 and down) out there along with what are some slightly newer ones. I'm in Middle Georgia and I am here to tell you they aren't all rust buckets like mine and most aren't kiddie-cars that have been tricked out. They seem to be in good running condition. I'd love to find out how many 1995-7 and below are still rolling.
I might buy a 1997 Honda but I'm getting some static about buying a "junk" car that will wear out too soon. I'm talking one with a normal maintenance history. How many miles are too much for an Accord (or Civic?)

I have a 95 accord with 672,553 miles on a stock engine, trans, water pump, and its still rather clean. just watch the rear wheel arches for rust. (some savvy 5gen accord owners would take a razor and cut the "weatherstripping" off the rear arches to avoid water and dirt being traped agenst the body work causing rust.) I say run a compression test/leak-down and make sure the trans is tight and go for it! I love the 5gen accord, still not too heavy but large enough to pull 1.09 lat g's with the right suspention/tire setup! I have 3 running accords and will probally get more..

91 DX. 2 door, 5 speed stick. 233K miles. Paid 1 K for it. If I keep my foot out of the peddle 25 mpg in town. On only out of town trip of 148 miles starting at an elevation of 1900 over a small hill with a summit of 5502' on to destination town with an elevation of 2697' and back used 3.6 gallons of fuel. (41 mpg). Yeah I will hang onto this one.

I've also got a 99 Accord LX sedan with a 5 speed (picked up last October) that has 234K miles on it. It's got a little more rust in the rear arches than the 97, but I only paid 350 for it. It needed a harmonic balancer replaced, as the PO thought it needed an engine. It's also had it's timing belts replaced.
And my wife has a 2000 Accord LX AT car that she loves. It's got 235K on it, and we took it to Texas and back twice last year. Got 26.5 mpg with the AC on, and the cruise set at 80. Not too bad for a 16 year old car.
I'm hoping to get at least 300K out of them, but then I live in the salt belt, so cars rust out here.
I should mention that in my area, there's at least 20 (including a twin to my own) 95-97 Accords. Not to mention about 7 or 8 98-02's (including a twin to my wifes) that are still going strong.

The ex and I had a '95 Accord that she had purchased used (one owner) prior to our meeting, the maintenance had been well kept. We lived in Louisville and drove that Accord to Canada, to Florida and back a number of times... when we eventually traded the car (only because we wanted a new vehicle) it had almost 300K miles on it and still ran like a champ. I'm sold on Honda
