Strut/shock replacement
I've got a 2000 4dr Accord Ex 4cyl with 240,000 miles. It rides pretty good for the miles but I'm thinking at this point it could probably use some new shocks/struts. I'm pretty sure they are original. I've heard that Honda doesn't recommend replacing them like normal shocks but I'm thinking it would greatly improve my ride. What else should I be concerned about replacing at this stage suspension related? Thanks.
ps: Tranny replaced at 125,000.

Why wouldn't Honda want you to replace them? Is the ride extra bouncy, any reasoning to actually replace them or just doing it because you want to?
There are a few rubber pieces to replace that are usually special order at Honda. You will need 8 strut rod bushings and 4 spring isolators. You can buy preassembled springs and struts at Napa... forget what they're called.

Well, I don't see why you couldn't replace them. If you're not replacing all 4, you should replace them in pairs. Don't cheap out on replacements either, you'll be looking for more replacements sooner than you think. Tokico HP (aka "blues") are a good shock, Koni STR.T, KYB GR-2... I would only recommend upper level Monroe or other "over the counter" shocks from the parts stores if money is tight. I think Tokico HP's run between $250-300 for a set, I wouldn't expect to pay more than $200-250 in labor to install them.

Probably a misunderstanding. There's some people who think you should replace shocks every xxx miles regardless if there's ANY degradation or not.
If the shocks have gotten bouncy, SURE replace them (in pairs at least).

I was going to replace mine at about 70k miles, I'm at 67k now, but I'll probably hold off until late summer at this point b/c I want to also get the Eibach Pro Kit. I have the Tokico with Eibach pro kit combo in my Corolla, it worked out well, so I'll either stick with the same or might go with Koni to check them out this time. Problem is, I also want to get thicker sways and maybe a strut bar to complete the package...but then, I also need to get bigger rims with wider tires, and while I'm on it, shouldn't I try to get some more hp out of the engine...LOL, this is starting to remind me of when I owned my Corolla!

I replaced the front outer tie rod ends and also the sway bar links this past weekend. After that I decided to leave the strut job to a professional. Both front and rear were replaced along with an alignment(monroe sensor tracs I think). I'm pretty pleased with the improved ride although I may take it back to have the alignment checked.
