2007 accord se v-6. Dealer says 3750 mi for oil change, and 3750 thereafter.. Manual says whenever mileage minder says so,or at 15%. question is : go with mileage minder,or dealer?

go with the dealer or what a lot of people commonly do is every 3000 miles... when you actually "need" to change your oil varies greatly from person to person, how quickly oil deteriorates or gets dirty depends on driving habits and enviromental conditions (dust etc). The age old idea on oil changes is every 3000 miles, they claim that with newer cars you can go 4000-5000 but I personally still don't trust that.... Long and short: change it every 3000-3750, if you want to know if you can go longer without oil changes then change it at 4000 miles and send a sample into an oil facility to get tested, if that's okay then try 4500 miles etc.... just my opinion...

Use the maintenance minder, they have been proven to be very accurate. Any plain jane oil will go 5000 miles today in the worst of conditions. The 3750 crap from the dealer is a profit center for them not for the good of your car. Depending on many variables your MM could go anywhere from 6 to 10K before it gets to 15% or less. It is set for regular oil and does not take synthetic into consideration. An excellent and inexpensive synthetic blend is Motorcraft 5W20 should you decide to do it yourself or provide your own oil at change time. The 3000 mile oil change myth is just that. It made sense 20+ years ago but makes no sense today.

The reason for all the extended services intervals is so that honda gets a better Main't rating from J D Powers The rating sytem looks at costs of main't in the first 100k miles, this is the reason the T-belt change went from 90k miles [over 20 years] to the new interval of 105k miles; Now that cost isn't in the first 100k miles. Same with the trans fluid changes that used to be every 30k miles. If you want to follow the uber cool ratings people, never do anything at all to your car and watch it fall apart after 100k miles. If you want to keep your car, find a 94 Accord main't schedule and go by that. Sort of like the new civic that has a super dinky oil filter and only uses 3 quarts of oil, yet now it has a 5000 mile oil service interval?? Hmmm lets think about that. Doesn't a lesser amount of oil get dirty faster? My personal opinion of JD Powers is that those morons should be hung by the Family Jewels with a guitar string and have a red hot fire poker shoved up their POOPERS. They are the same people that run the dealership survey program that cuts a technicians pay if a service writer smarts off to a customer, as well as if parts dept doesn't have a part on hand.

Thanks everyone. I always changed the oil in my cars at ~3k as that was the norm years ago. It wasn't till we got the new accord and the manual said something like 5000,7500 miles,or even once a yr if you drive low mileage. I think i'll do the 5k interval,or the oil indicator for now.
