VTECH question!!! - 3/25/2008 8:42:19 AM    BigLeagueChew   Posts: 8 Joined: 3/25/2008 Status: offline I just purchased a 08 accord EXL v6 coupe, and was just wondering what RPM the v-tech kicks in?  I floored it a few times to 65-70 but I cant really make out when its kicking in... Post #: 1

RE: VTECH question!!! - 3/25/2008 1:16:31 PM    00AccordLX5spd Posts: 3815 Joined: 1/16/2007 Status: offline The reason you can hear the VTEC in your buddy's prelude is because it is DOHC.  VTEC does not kick in at a specific RPM on our cars as Falkore said.  i kind of doubt it does on Preludes either.  i wouldn't be surprised if the sound you hear on your friend's prelude is not in fact the VTEC "kicking in." RE: VTEC question!!! - 3/25/2008 1:20:07 PM    BigLeagueChew   Posts: 8 Joined: 3/25/2008 Status: offline Thanks for the info....I'm kinda new at all this....I'm just saying when I'm in his car and his pushes it you can hear the engine get alot louder when his rpms hit around 5k...same thing when my other friend had his rsx type s....it would hit 5k and you would really be able to hear the v-tec kick in (in reply to 00AccordLX5spd) Post #: 11

RE: VTEC question!!! - 3/25/2008 1:49:16 PM    JimBlake   Posts: 3281 Joined: 5/31/2006 Status: online My old Integra GSR had the 2-stage intake manifold, and when the secondaries ("IAB") opened up that was pretty easy to hear.  With an 8k redline you have enough room to take advantage of that.  I think the secondaries opened at 5400 or something like that. The VTEC crossover point was a lot more subtle.  You feel that more in terms of discontinuity in power, but not so much a difference in sound. Some Prelude H-engines have pretty much the same manifold, but I don't know which years/versions of Prelude have that IAB manifold. _____________________________ '03 Accord & '07 Civic '01 Saab 9³ & '05 9²x (in reply to live2rice) Post #: 15
