Let me lay it to you short and simple.  What I did (and what alot of people here recommend doing):  I bought a short ram kit off of eBay for my model accord (make sure you ask the seller what the diameter on the piping is).  That came down to about $50 or $60.  Throw away the filter they send you, or re-sell it for like $15.  Next, I went to www.knfilters.com and found myself a suitable cone filter, also about $50-$60 (BE CERTAIN it fits the pipe you bought off eBay).  I went with one called the RU-4950, but that one doesn't fit, so I have to send it back to K&N and get me an RC-3870.  Install the piping and plop on your new filter.

Now, about installation, the seller on eBay will recommend taking it to professionals to get it done.  That's a load of bs and they will hit your wallet with a $100 tab.  What you can do, is if the seller doesn't send you an instruction manual, look online for one.  Truth be told, everyone says you can do it in under an hour.  It took me about 2-3 hours, cause I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything bad.

A good tip: take high-quality, meticulous pictures of your engine bay, so that if you decide you want to go back to stock in the middle of installing your SRI, you'll remember where everything goes.

Hope this helps.

shorty for sure. i have a comprehensive write up about the shorty somewhere on here. to make it short. the experience from a shorty on your motor is viceral. i had 260k on my accord with my ebay shorty. dont know why they chrome them though, it kinda compounds the heat. so i took some header wrap and wrapped mine.

The lower cost of an SRI versus the tiny horsepower bump of a CAI. Plus the lower risk factor, shorter install time, throatier/louder sound make them better.

If you're already spending $50-60 on the eBay SRI and then another $50-60 on the filter, why wouldn't you just buy the AEM SRI for $109.99?
