Sometimes both. Sometimes if she actually dumps outside, she will immediately turn around and try to eat it. I always yell at her though and get her away from it. Sometimes I will come home from work and it will be what I call a "s*** party." There will be little dried up clumps of poo everywhere. It appears she waited till the poo dried, then decided to spread it all over the place. Most of the time she waits until it is fairly dried up. And no, I don't leave it laying on the floor all day either. As soon as I see it I clean it up. Apparently she poos shortly after we leave for work in teh morning, then she lets it sit for a while, then she plays with it/eats it. I have steam cleaned the carpet about 5 times already. I will be steam cleaning it again this weekend .
We used to use those dog training pads you can find at WalMart or pet stores. When she was a puppy she would actually use them. Now she will crap right next to the pad and attempt to tear the pad to shreds. Anything made of paper that is within her reach she will destroy. Here is a pic of her one time after we came home. We left the door to the bathroom open and she had gotten ahold of a roll of toilet paper.

wow. it looks like she is taunting you in that photo.
my bird will pick at his own crap, but he doesnt eat it. unfortunately, it requires beak to crap contact to figure it out though.
