I've been looking at engine swaps for the last two weeks and was wondering how much more work is envoled in putting a H23 vtech into my 91 lx than just getting an h22. Are there any real advantages one engine has over the other? Will the H23 just bolt in like the H22 or will i need to make modifications? A little off topic, but I was also looking  about an F22Z2. Can I even get a F22Z2 in the US and is it really that much better than my F22A1?

Never heard of the F22z2.

H23vtec is the same swap as the H22, just a larger stroke.

Hi there :)

The F22Z2 is the Euro/UK 2.2 VTEC lump - Have it in my Accord here in the UK, Its an ok engine, tunable to about 315/320 bhp with a Treadstone Turbo kit and uprated internals @ 15 psi comes with 147 bhp standard. (I have not done it - a friend has though).  I was thinking about going that route but my friend has suggested trying to locate/import an F22B1 lump as its going to be easier to source parts when going for the Turbo upgrade.

Hope that helps a bit ;)

If you're going a turbo route you'll want the F22B2 (non-VTEC). Having VTEC kick in is going to screw up your turbo tune.

Thanks for the informations guys. Since I seriously doubt I can get a F22Z2 imported for less then it would cost to get a h22 or h23 I guess that's the end of that. I'd really like to try and get a h23 v-tec because it seems to be rarer then most swaps. I want to know more about the swap before I've fully decided though. Can anyone tell me what all will have to be replaced to make the h23 v-tec swap possible? Also I read somewhere that all the h23 v-tecs have electric power steering because they're all jdm, so can it be modified to use hydraulic power steering? Can my car be modified to use the electric power steering if the engine can't be?

I highly doubt you'd even want to try and make electric power steering work on your car.

If you plan on using the H23vtec, most if not all of the PS components from your F22 should bolt right onto the H23 block.

If electric power steering was the only way it would work I was just going to leave it off the car.

Just a few more questions. I plan on keeping my f22 tranny unless I can find a h23 v-tec that is already been swapped from the stock AT to a MT. So I need to know if I can use the parts off my f22 to mount my 5spd tranny or will I need to get other parts to get it to fit. Also what all will I need to do the swap right the first time? Axles, tranny mount, or any other parts that will have to be changed during the swap. I know I'll need a new ecu so does anyone know what ecu I should use?

Your tranny will bolt up fine, so will the mounts, and axles. Since you have a 91, convert the motor to OBD1 and use a P28 ecu with a tuning program of your choice.

Maybe it's me, but I thought the H23 was a NON-VTEC motor?
Only the H22 has VTEC

***EDIT***
I just checked and that motor does exist
but only for the Japan Accord SIR.
It's pretty expensive to import though
USDM H23A1 us a Non VTEC
JDM H23 is a VTEC which I believe isa H22/H23 hybrid

This is an H23 VTEC
