Fuel Recommendations - 3/9/2006 5:47:15 PM    sir_nasty Posts: 6309 Joined: 2/23/2006 Status: offline I know there was just recently a post similar to this one but I believe it was in referance to a 2006 V6 Accord so I didn't know if it was really applicable. Normally I just do the hit and miss type of selection for fuel by trying one at a time but I was curious about other peoples suggestions. I live in BFE so my choice of fuel stations is limited... I've been using the 87 octane but what does Honda call for in a 94 Accord EX? Should I try some more expensive stuff for the F22 engine w/ Manual Tranny? Post #: 1

RE: Fuel Recommendations - 3/10/2006 12:19:09 AM    lightshow Posts: 1775 Joined: 1/6/2006 Status: offline your manual does call for 87 but i feel exactly the opposite of marbro. i think to start with, there is a more expensive detergent and additive package in premium fuel which will keep your fuel system, injectors, valves, and combustion chambers drastically cleaner when used over a decent period of time. also, your computer is intelligent. it can tell when you are loafin around and want to save fuel and it can tell when you want to get from point a to point b in the shortest period of time. the difference between optimal fuel efficiency and maximum power is timing, and there is only a certain amount of timing that you can run before detonation becomes present. the higher the octane fuel that you run, the more timing that can be run. make no mistake though your car will run just fine with regular fuel your car doesnt need it. and directly because of what i just said, you car will actually get better gas mileage with lower octane fuel. RE: Fuel Recommendations - 3/10/2006 11:27:42 AM    accord4sroy   Posts: 388 Joined: 3/8/2006 Status: offline i put 89 since out here where i live its the cheapest, usually i go with the 87 that doesn't have ethanol in it. anyways, i noticed that with the 89 there was a good response. so, lightshow makes a great point about octane! however, i think ethanol isn't good for engines. they should just put some other additive in gas. i know that in other cities they are using it in all three grades with like 10%. that's my two cents on fuel. at least out in the east and west you guys can put quality fuel. i feel out here in the midwest we are short changed a little. Thats part of the reason why I wish there were chevrons in the area. ^_^ If the fuel is burnt completely the force of the combustion should also help clean the valves, the dome and the pistons. In terms of actual performance going to a higher octane wont do anything for him. (in reply to lightshow) Post #: 6

At each oil change put a large bottle of Techron in the tank and fill it up. The fuel is what keeps it cool. I try to keep mine around half at minimum. As for fuel, I try to stick with BP, Shell, and Mobil. RE: Fuel Recommendations - 5/28/2006 1:58:31 AM    benjiaccord Posts: 136 Joined: 2/2/2006 Status: offline I agree with some and others i don't, with 87 octane in my 94 EX when vtec kicks in, i can hear it but don't feel it. Now if I am running 92 octane, or 93 if I shop at mobil, i can feel the difference. I do however have intake, header, exhaust that could attribute to being able to fell it with better octane. I disagree that higher octane doesn't do anything. The difference is, that the higher octane at the pump doesn't do much difference. Look at anybody's power readouts on a tuned engine. At pump gas you make x amount of hp and torque, you put 98 or higher octane and the jump is amazing. However, your normal engine wouldn't like this too much is my guess. Thats why I say tuned engines. Anyways, thats why you see the funny cars and stuff all run on race gas, or airport gas, or pure nitro. Its all higher octane stuff, the higher the octane the easier the burn, don't believe me? Try and light malibu rum on fire, not going to happen, now light everclear on fire!! ALL Accords prior to 2003 model year will not make use of higher octane fuel since the ECU does not have the means to adjust the timing based upon octane 2. ALL 6th gen V6 accords make LESS power when you use higher octane fuel (refer to C&D Nov 01 issue) you will loose 4whp and it will add .5sec to your 0-60 times due to the loss of 15ft/lbs of torqe in the low-mid rpm range. This V6 lacks a knock sensor so the engine is tuned very conservatively. 3. 7th gen accords will add 10hp/torque when you run on 91 octane fuel. It takes about 2 tanks before the full effect is noticed. If your car runs better on higher octane fuel, you need to find the problem and fix it. End of story. The four cylinder 2.4l performance is not enhanced by higher octane and it can actually retard performance. We're talking stock engines here not dragsters.
