I read some other posts and it seams that it is recommended to remove the rubber hose leading to the air filter from the throttle body instead of from the box housing the air filter.  Can anyone confirm this?  Please Provide a tip?

this is a fairly easy process...

It won't hurt to remove the rubber hoses; just unscrew the clamps some before-hand and they should squeeze off with some elbow-grease..

other than that, it should just be open the box, and swap the filters...

I have a CAI on my 03-4cyl pretty much as soon as I got the car, so I've never even changed a filter from the stock box to give you 100% step-by-step process...
but as I said, it's really really simple, most cars are identical in process which involves a few screws or simple clips to come out and you have full access to the filter.

I'd be hard-pressed to imagine you being able to mess anything up if you just went for it.

Thanks I will give it a another try.  Ive never worked on my car before but it seems like there is very little opportunity for damage with this type of replacement!

step 1: locate filter box
step 2: locate 4 clamps
step 3: open the clamps
step 4: remove top cover to the side
step 5: (remove old filter)
step 6: put new filter (i assume i didn't have to write the "going to the store to buy a filter" part)
step 7: close top of box
step 8: close the clamps:
step 9: close hood (not really necessary)
step 10: turn on car

And there you go...
