I have 2 questions. I have a 94 accord auto, original(f22b2-no vtec), and swapped in a f23a1(vtec) into it, and the car runs good but pings, also it will not pass 5000 rpm no matter what gear i am in. Do vtec have something to do with this 5000rpm problem, and if so how do i go about fixing it. And what can cause the car to ping. I do have a short intake, and nothing else. I used my b2 intake, and dizzy for easy install.

I've never had a Honda or Acura product ping. On other brands, lack of EGR flow can raise combustion temps and cause pinging, occasionally severe. Check EGR manifold and vacuum switching for correct function. I would have thought you need to swap the ECU's to have the correct ECU driving the engine. The timing map may be different and cause pinging. Suspect RPM limit may also be related to mismatch ECU/Engine. good luck

Same ECU to match the engine is a good general rule anyway. Sometimes Honda changes sensors around even within the same generation of Accord.

Did you swap the ECU from the donor car the f23 came out of? if not I bet that has something to do with it like has already been said. 94 Accord = OBDI. Accords with F23's = OBDII

no i did not change the ECU, i didn't want to fool with obdII, but maybe i will thanks. I thought that the obdI ECU would run the F23 just fine, if i used the f22 intake, dist, and coil. Again it does run fine up until about 5000rpm, and some pinging.

Wouldn't the base fuel map be smaller values for the smaller displacement of the F22? Lean mixture is more prone to knocking.
