ping--cant pass 5000rpm - 4/29/2008 10:46:53 AM    kenneyd   Posts: 9 Joined: 5/31/2007 Status: offline I have 2 questions. I have a 94 accord auto, original(f22b2-no vtec), and swapped in a f23a1(vtec) into it, and the car runs good but pings, also it will not pass 5000 rpm no matter what gear i am in. Do vtec have something to do with this 5000rpm problem, and if so how do i go about fixing it.  And what can cause the car to ping.  I do have a short intake, and nothing else.  I used my b2 intake, and dizzy for easy install. _____________________________ 1994 accord lx f23a1 auto Post #: 1

On other brands, lack of EGR flow can raise combustion temps and cause pinging, occasionally severe. Check EGR manifold and vacuum switching for correct function. I would have thought you need to swap the ECU's to have the correct ECU driving the engine. The timing map may be different and cause pinging.
