IAC Valve cleaning help - 4/29/2008 3:20:15 PM    markrb   Posts: 7 Joined: 6/2/2007 Status: offline After some research I am of the opinion that there is something wrong with my IAC valve in my 03 6 cyl Accord. It seems that a good cleaning on the internals does the job most of the time. Now my problem is I don't really know what this is and where it is. I am up for giving it a go if I can find some pictures and guidance. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but have no experience with this. Does anyone have any links or pictures on how to clean this? What should I use to clean it?  Maybe spray on gumout? Thanks, Mark Post #: 1

RE: IAC Valve cleaning help - 4/30/2008 3:54:04 PM    markrb   Posts: 7 Joined: 6/2/2007 Status: offline I am not exactly sure what type of motor it is. All I know is that it's the 03 V6 V-Tech. It all started with an engine code of P0506 (lower RPM then expected). After searching the net for this code I kept coming across the same problem with 03 Accords.  It also has a rough idle from time to time. In the posts I saw at various other forums it seemed to all come back to cleaning this valve or replacing it. Now that I think of it though they may have been talking about the 4 cyl version, but I will have to check it again. The check engine light has since gone out, but this is the second time in 3 months that the engine light has come on with this code. If I don't have this valve what would you suspect is causing the rough idle, which I think the engine code is directly related too? It runs smooth when moving. Mark (in reply to JimBlake) Post #: 3

RE: IAC Valve cleaning help - 4/30/2008 10:34:58 PM    JimBlake   Posts: 3272 Joined: 5/31/2006 Status: offline I'm kinda guessing without benefit of a shop manual for that car... The idle control system should be kinda the same, so check for vacuum leaks & remove air pockets from cooling system. But for the IACV, that's a little air valve that the ECU would use to control the idle.  Since your throttle itself is motorized & under direct control of the ECU, then the ECU would use the actual throttle itself.  In other words, at idle, your throttle isn't completely closed, but the ECU is working it at all times. Clean out the throttle body.  Look for (remove) any crud around the bore where the throttle plate closes.  I don't know if there's any parts of the throttle body where you have to be especially careful with the cleaning fluid. _____________________________ '03 Accord & '07 Civic '01 Saab 9³ & '05 9²x (in reply to markrb) Post #: 4
