The real reason is that I can't pull close to the rock with my instep since I hurt my knees. That is actually a Wallaby - basically a smaller version of a kangaroo.  It's an olive python.  Still pretty big, but not quite as big as many have labeled it in an email circulated claiming the wallaby in the picture is a full sized cow.  Notice the wallaby's hind legs and tail.  Also note how short the front legs are.
