Every Accord I've owned is like that, shifting into 1st.  You have to be almost to a full stop.  I doubt it was intentionally designed like that.  Probably just the way the gears and synchros work together.  At least it forces me to be a law-abiding citizen; the drivers around here blow through stop signs like crazy, and I have to either stop enough to get into 1st, or really dog it in 2nd.

And, I've always liked the flow-through ventilation on my Accords.  There's plenty of times when that's just enough w/o having to run the fan at all.

but thats only for the F series transmission right?the H series or K series transmission don't do that i hope???do they?otherwise i'll stay in auto

It's doesn't affect driving at all, except for those times when you're slowing down approaching a light and it turns green and you either have to let out the clutch in 2nd or wait till you slow down enough to get into first.

well that's ok, most of the time, when that happens, your moving fast enough, to put it in second and be able to drive away

Yup.  Just the nature of the beast.

One way to look at it, the job of the synchro is to block you from shifting into 1st until the gearset spins up to match the revs where it needs to be.

That's why double clutching or rev-matching always works.  Mine does it in reverse sometimes too.  I used to be annoyed by it, but now I almost don't even notice it anymore.

-Even when my air/heat us turned off i can feel a good amount of air coming through the vents

I have that to on my 5th gen.  It gets annoying b/c you have to adjust the heat/cool knob even when you dont have it set to blow air out.  I always have it set to the foot setting and medium for the temp.

I actually like that it does that.. not sure why.

One thing I don't like though is my wood trim.. and the orange line under my headlights.

Another thing I noticed today is sometimes at stoplights when the air con kicks in the car will jump forward.  Just a little jump forward but enough to make me think, wth is going and then i hear the a/c compressor rumbling.

That reminds me, I hate that the A/C kicks on when you turn on the windshield defroster. Grr. I know it dehumidifies the air that's fogging up the windshield, but it's not worth sucking gas to do so. I'd rather evaporate it with the heater.

I don't know who started that trend, but before the set the compressor to come on w/ the defrost, the seals in the a/c system were drying out from not being used for 8 months out of the year.  In much of the country you don't need the a/c except June, July, and August.

That's what I hear anyway. ;-)

i also think honda messed up by not at least having a trim with a DOHC engine. they should've at least made the "Special Edition" accords DOHC,that would've been real nice.

I second that.  I like it too in Mississippi since it is usually very hot.  Although many times in the "winter" I will have to use the heat in the morning, then I have to use the A/C by noon, and I have to use the heat again at night.

I hate that too.  After I first got my car, I used to always turn the A/C button off when I saw it come on after I hit the defrost button.  then I would wonder why the defrost didn't work.  then my wife rode with me and was like "Why are you turning off the A/C? Don't you know the defrost won't work right with it off?" (She has driven the 95 V6 since she was 17.)  And I'm like: "Listen woman, I know more about cars than you do."  Then I turned the AC button back on and the windshield defogged in less than a minute. I felt pretty smart.  My response was somehting along the lines of: "This is the first car I've had that did that.  I think it's stupid."

When I was driving at lunch I thought of a few more:
The manual trans shifter is like 2 feet tall
A short shift adapter is almost a must since the stock shift throw is about a foot
When you shift, it sounds cheap, like it is made of plastic or something.  If I shift hard/fast, I hear a popping sound that makes it sound like it is made of plastic (kind of hard to describe.)
Driving with the A/C on feels like the car has about 90hp instead of 150.

It's funny how the score always comes up like that, no matter what actually happens during the conversation.

Our 2003 (7th-gen) Accord goes one worse.  When you turn the defroster on, the AC lamp doesn't light up.  But the AC DOES operate & it can't be turned off.

Do you drive at 5700 rpm all the time?  At 3000rpm you probably don't even have 90 hp.  The AC might take only 10 hp, but at 2000rpm you probably don't even have 60hp.

I really hate that too.  The a/c robs the little 2.3 of its balls.  Kills the mpg too.  I lose about 2mpg.  I guess it's a small price to pay for being cool instead of sweating bullets.
