umarJ30 -> quick question bout springs (6/2/2008 12:41:04 AM)

so i got a 2006 2dr accord 6speed and im tryin to lower it both for looks and handling.  but im not tryin to spend alot of money, so i was thinking about jus getting some springs like the eibach sportlines that drop it 2 at the front and 1.4 in the back.  but a freind told me that by getting just springs i would be hurting my car and that i have to get shocks, struts and everything else. and while im on the topic, what is the difference between springs and coilovers?

                                                                                      thanks

Anything over 1" is going to need new shocks/struts and a camber kit for a decent ride. Use the search feature in my signature to find more info.

Coilovers are a full shock/spring already assembled and just bolts right in place of factory shocks/springs. Coilovers allow you to adjust the height to your liking. As said above, use the search feature

A nice coilover kit will also allow you to adjust the damper, how hard or soft you ride. and if you really want to get fancy, you can get the motors to adjust the damper from inside your car, ie Tein's EDFC

cant u do the the same with eibach sportsline with koni struts/shocks?

03Sleeper -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 6:24:36 AM)

Yes...but the advantage of coilovers is that they are adjustable. You can adjust the ride height and camber wear whereas the ride height is limited to your spring and you''ll probably have to get a camber kit to go along w/ your shock/spring setup. that being said, coilovers are notoriously expensive.

Koni''s have adjustable spring perches FTW lol.

03Sleeper -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 11:51:58 AM)

I thought only Koni Yellows have that feature....or are all Konis Yellow..... *crap*

Some KYBs are adjustable as well.

ziwang55 -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 1:40:45 PM)

but does it still work good as a coilover tho?

finch13 -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 1:46:45 PM)

Whatever damper is with the coilover is decided by the manufacturer. Springs and dampers can be mixed and matched, along with sleeve-overs. Think of coilovers as one unit.

Sleeper, yes the yellows have adjustable perches, and maybe a few other models too... that''s different from adjustable damping though.

With my springs, dampers and camber kits, I could have bought a VERY nice set of coilovers for the same price I will end up paying.

wait i thought adjustable damping and shock or strut was the same thing? or do they work differently?

klrspz -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 2:44:43 PM)

Koni yellows have the adj. perches.. dunno about the others...

what''s a good coilover cost that does all the standard adj. plus damper adjustments?

I think i paid under 1200 for my koni+eibach setup over a year ago.

falkore24 -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/25/2008 2:53:59 PM)

Lemme clarify a few things here:

Koni''s perch adjusts about 1".  It''s only intended purpose is for corner weight balancing, yet it does offer this 1" adjustment and can be used for aesthetics as well.

Adjustable dampening is done from the shock or strut.  This makes the ride harder or softer.

A coilover, sleeve-over or coilover sleeve allow the height of the car to be adjusted via variable height, threaded spring perches (typically about 3" of range).  A coilover may or may not also use adjustable dampers.

Not all Koni''s have the adjustable perches because the ones that I''m probably going to get for my Scion don''t.

I think that I paid just under a grand for the Tein SS setup that I had ..... about 4 years ago ..... before gasoline drove up the price of our mods!!!

NOTE:  If you want the EDFC control system, you have to get the Tein SS-P setup, not the SS.

ziwang55 -> RE: quick question bout springs (6/26/2008 1:37:17 AM)

well tell us about ur tein setup how was it performance wise?
