Tippman7641 -> HID Information (7/8/2008 10:59:51 AM)

Ok, this happened on an old forum, everyother day some one kept asking about hids so here they are

Myths associated with H.I.D.s

1. HIDS can melt the light housing(afthermarket)
- more false then true, they in fact only use 35w there for run cooler the regular halgoen(its not the heat of the bulb but its shape)
2. They are only plug and play
-False, for most hondas the wiring harness cannot handle the power needed at start up, and external harness must be bought to use them

Below is the post i made on the other site, that was my 2000 Blazer with stock housings.

I''''''''ve seen so many post of people asking about these things.  I myself just got them, I have some before and after pictures to help anyone out.  You are invited, if you have H.I.D.''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s as well to post before and after pics.

Make sure you read the post(s) preceding this, they can and sometimes are helpful if you become confused about H.I.D.s
Mine in the pictures are 6000k bulbs
These are the other color options H.I.D.s come in

HID''''s can melt housings, but it''''s not because of the heat, it is because the HID bulb is longer than a halogen and in some fixtures can get too close to plastic parts whereas the bulb would have more clearance.

Here is more HID info:  Link to discussion on "HID in a halogen fixture"

Tippman7641 -> RE: HID Information (7/8/2008 11:15:18 AM)

well lol my truck didnt have the plastic in the housing, ive yet to transfer them over, but ur talking about that piece that site difecting infront of the housing?(on the accord)  And i ment that its not the heat that the bulb generates that melts the housing, but more like what you said the bubls length

falkore24 -> RE: HID Information (7/8/2008 11:19:45 AM)

Personally, I have not seen a melted housing from an HID install .... I know that people have and the length is the cause, because like you said, less wattage equals less heat.   On the other hand, an overwattage bulb will melt the stock plastic harness.

On my 6th gen, I had overwattage bulbs with a high power relay and ceramic harnesses; then TYC projectors and finally, the projectors with an H1 HID retrofit, as seen in my pics.

Interesting counter-points on HID usage:

falkore24 -> RE: HID Information (7/8/2008 12:17:12 PM)

Good Link!  It''''s similar to the discussion that I linked earlier, but it only shows the downside.  I think my drawings show the optic problems fairly clearly.  I recognize the shortcommings of a retrofit, but at the same time also realize that not all fixtures produce bad light or blinding glare.  IMO, if an article is intended to point out the flaws, it should also qualify that in most cases, the light output is actually better than the bulbs if not equal with less power -> more efficient.

finch13 -> RE: HID Information (7/8/2008 12:23:11 PM)

I''m happy with my OEM HID "retrofit". I''ve only gotten flashed once and have driven all over. I do agree with the color range index or whatever that thing is, colors were definitely more "noticeable" with the halogens.

Tippman7641 -> RE: HID Information (7/8/2008 9:19:31 PM)

the disadavantage is 100% true, i can see every little pebble in the headlight, but i can barely ever see whats just beyond the beam

falkore24 -> RE: HID Information (7/9/2008 6:33:30 AM)

Perhaps you should try a 4300K HID bulb to see if what you are experiencing is due to the reflector not being optimal or the spectrum of light not being optimal ...... right now you have both.

finch13 -> RE: HID Information (7/9/2008 7:56:34 AM)

My high beams are a nice yellow still, so I can see every detail up close, but all of the colors far away (when I need to). Very happy with it.

BuntinBoy9 -> RE: HID Information (7/9/2008 9:24:17 PM)

ok i saw the first post and was gettin ready to make a new post with my problem... i bought some hid''s from dtmtuning and they are apexicones... they arent working and i think my problem is the wireing isnt holding... what do i do so that they do work???? thanks

19Accord97 -> RE: HID Information (7/9/2008 9:51:50 PM)

Buntin, I just installed a set from there too but they were the DDM ones.
Anyways, did they work at all?

I am assuming you didnt notice that the wires on the kit and your car are backwards.  So, you will either have to file and cut the extra platic away so you can turn your plug upside down, or strip, and solder the wires correctly on the ballast itself which is was I did.  Its not to hard if you have soldered before.  Did you buy a relay harness?  Good luck man!

Tippman7641 -> RE: HID Information (7/10/2008 6:53:39 AM)

u need something like this http://www.automotivelightingusa.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_126&products_id=1410&zenid=e833c84a648e8e3f430eb46c872cb3d1
what is is is a postive wire that connects directly to the battery to goes to a relay(this relay is connect to your stock harness, then when you turn ur lights on inside ur car, it trips the relay) this relay goes to the head lights, afther the head lights the wires go to the frame(ground)

finch13 -> RE: HID Information (7/10/2008 6:59:10 AM)

Or make it yourself for half the price.

BuntinBoy9 -> RE: HID Information (7/10/2008 7:49:54 AM)

I did not buy the relay harness. Should I have? I and the were from ddmtuning too. Also I did not notice that they didn''t match up so i can easily fix that. I''ve souldered before... I installed my valor head unit myself. Also what does a relay harness do?
