new honda accord - 4/17/2006 2:04:58 PM    ckbjcb   Posts: 2 Joined: 4/5/2006 Status: offline hi, new to the forum. just bought 06 ex-l accord 4dr 5sp manual loaded with everything but nav. this is our second honda... we have a 03 element ex also. really like the accord 5sp man... getting 27.7 mpg around town here in florida. this as all city driving but not using the ac much yet. is any body else getting this type of mileage? i'm only gettng 21-22 with the element and 19-20 using the ac. How many miles do you have on it? If you're at less than about 7500 miles then chances are your mileage will continue to improve until that point. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum! I'm averaging about 26 MPG with equal parts city and highway, and I don't drive the car hard at all. My 5th tank I got 25.4. The best tank I got about 27. Unlike some posters I'm not seeing a steady improvement from tank to tank. Instead I'm seeing it go up and down with each tank. I have about 1500 miles so far. What are othe owners seeing? I'm really curious. My 1996 Accord EX routinely got around 30 mpg from the very start. 400 miles per tank was my standard. The light on my 2006 goes on about 325. With the high-precision and close tolerances that are possible in the manufacturing of engines these days, I don't understand the process with which they would get better over time. In the days gone by there used to be a running in period of around 1000-1500 miles. With the better manufacturing techniques that is not so critical, however personally I would still "run" my car in for the first 1000 or so miles keeping it below 3000rpm. Just my opinion of course. My 96 accord gets about 33-35mpg (Imperial gallon which is about 4.5 litres) and 400 miles from a full tank 14.3 imperial gallons 17.2 US gallons _____________________________ I only follow the Ferraris - Luigi (Owner of Casa Della Tires) (in reply to jgish) Post #: 9

C&D did a test with a few cars new and at 50K and found out that all off the cars except for one had better fuel econmy, accelleration, and ride characteristics. Pistin rings have to set, trans gears have to establish their wear patterns, bearings and everything else that relates to the car moving has to go through the same process.
