turbo help - 4/24/2006 11:58:36 PM    Adie   Posts: 49 Joined: 3/19/2006 Status: offline hey im just done with installing aftermarket cat back exhaust intake and header on my 01 accord 4 cyl. the nxt thing i should be lookin forward to is a turbo is it hard to hook up a turbo on my car by my own i make like 400 per week saving up and bringing mah car to a should to install a t3 turbo is around 4gz so im just asking what do i need and is it like really hard to put up a turbo on my car by my own self Post #: 1

If it is your daily driver and you need it then I'd say get a shop to do it for you. But as we all know, the bad part about that is the whole 800ish dollar installation. From what it seems, the more difficult parts of the installation deal with the fuel management and tapping the oil pan. As far as what you need, you'll have to have a FMU, piping, you'll probably want an intercooler, of course a turbo, a blow off valve, hydrocarbon-proof lines for the oil feed and return lines, a wastegate and wastegate spring, new injectors (depending on what psi you run), couplers and clamps, vacuum lines, a boost timing manager, a turbo manifold, and then a downpipe. I'm sure I'm missing something but, if you search for lightshow's post on turbo parts hes got it all listed. He suggests a 2g eclipse turbo since it gets the job done and it's easy to find. Honestly, it's nothing too daunting, there are just plenty off oppurtunities to mess things up big time. Here are a few of those harder parts: Dropping the gas tank for the fuel pump (may not have to depending on year of car or if you get an inline pump) Tapping the oil pan (Measure 5 times and drill once! and remove it so you don't get metal shavings inside your motor) Downpipe (If you don't have access to a welder this is best left to an exhaust shop.) There will probably be a handful of hang ups that occur (turbo that doesn't clear the radiator fans, washer fluid resivior needs to come out, blah blah) so be ready to modify away. You may want to get some more expirience if you can't afford to be without your car for a long time. It's not as easy as putting on a new intake... (in reply to tom15425) Post #: 3

RE: turbo help - 4/26/2006 8:02:34 AM    Adie   Posts: 49 Joined: 3/19/2006 Status: offline sounds hard and scary i guess i should take it to a shop but would it cost me less if i buy my own custom kit on ebay like on lightshows forum ? installing a t3/t3 turbo in mah area asked 2 shops its about 4 thousand and if it does what parts do i need to get since i don't really get how it goes and if it fits or not its not like any other parts that i could look for mah car year and model to buy (accord 01 4 cyl) (in reply to Adie) Post #: 4

You will still need to do a fair amount of research to make sure you get all the right parts and that everything is compatible. Turbos are scary of course if you don't know a lot about them. There's a lot of extra things your setup will need to run good. I recommed just getting out there and learning as much as you can about them before you totally give up on the install. homemadeturbo.com is a great place to start, and there are plenty of other resources out there where you can get tons of information on installs. There are even sights that walk you through a turbo kit install on a honda, so the stuff is all out there. Good luck man (in reply to Adie) Post #: 5

Turbo: t3/04E Turbo manifold: Drag f22b/f23 (bolts, and gaskets bought seperately) BOV: Greddy Type-r Wastegate: Turbo smart 35mm (pretty sure this is a 15psi spring) Fuel pump: Walbro 255lph FMU: Blox 12:1 Boost Controller: Turbo smart Blox MAP bypass (current screw driver threads are stripped so i have to pull off the throttle body to install this part and that still may leave the map sensor hugging the tower or the top lip of the engine bay) Turbo oil feed line kit which has pre clamped ends for the feed and all the parts for the dump Remote oil cooler kit which has all the hoses ands and cooler needed to do that(depending on if you do this option you may want to get a few extra feet of steel braided hose 2 ends and two couplers ( another 50 to 80 bucks depending on how you go about it) I got an all in one kit with universal piping that contained the BOV, Wastegate, Boost Controller, FMIC 5"hX 21 1/4"wX 2 1/2"d thats the size of the core not including the end caps and this claims a very low lost of boost which if its true or not decides if i upgrade in the future, about 15 feet of vac hose, all the clamps needed, 2 flanges for the wastegate, and a flange for the bov. $360 with shipping has the need to have the bov flange welded on and a pipe or two bent depending on how you install it. The down pipe i will be getting is also from the same kit as the manifold which is amazingly cheaper Drag manifold 355+shipping and the downpipe 250+shipping if you dont like the idea of a little extra fabrication go with what works ^_^ (in reply to Adie) Post #: 6
