I wanted to post something. I am with Marbro all the way.. I think Bush has been a pretty good president. I wanted to add about the school situation, I work as a teacher assistant at a public school and the kids that I see with lower grades are the ones who have a bad home life. Usually they are missing a parent or their parents have drug or drinking problems. Really I've noticed that these kids have a lack of attention from their parents. Utimately, I feel that alot of parents have children and think that everyone else is supposed to take care of them. Teachers can only do so much!! Although, single parents this can't apply. I have a child of my own and I know that it's my job to teach him and help him so that he can get the best education. I also think that there are alot less bad teachers than what everyone thinks. Where I live teachers only make $20,000 a year. Average rent where I live is $1,200.00 a month. All of the teachers at my elementary school teach because they love the job and want to help all the kids have a great future in education. ****This is the truth!!! I mean really how many people do you know that would go to college for over four years and then continue to go through state creditial testing to make $20,000 a year. The no child left behind also made things different for teacher assistants. Now a teacher assistant has to have at least a two year college degree. A teacher assistant only makes $13,000.00 a year. Believe me I know!! For a school to qualify for the extra money 96% of children in the entire school must be at grade level in all subjects. Teachers get $1,000.00 bonus and teacher assistants get a $220.00 bonus. This puts alot of pressure on teachers because they are judged that year on how their kids perform on their eog's (end of grade testing). This starts at the second grade level. I wanted to also add that being with children all day and keeping them on task is alot harder than most would think. Eventhough I think teachers and teacher assistant should be paid more I still think that Bush has done a great job being our president. No matter what I would still vote for him again!!! I'm sure someone will disagree with me about the school issue. My response is that if you're a parent you should home school your kid and see how well you do with your child. There are great tax breaks for doing this..Most people need to understand that teachers need to have parents at home helping their child also. Teachers should not be looked down upon because they have children in their classes that are low or even failing. Parents should be telling their child to try their best, helping them with their home work, and parents should also communicate with their child and find out if they are having any problems with their work. Alot of parents never come in for parent/teacher conferences. This is rediculous!! Some of the parents that I have came into contact with could care less about their child. It makes me sick!!!! But anyway enough with my ranting.. I will always continue to help every child who comes my way no matter what their home life situation is. Thanks for reading, Breeze

I may be a little late to this thread, but here we go anyway. Don't get to log in every day - or week, so it appears. :) 1) The president may have something to do with introducing programs like NCLB, but how much does he REALLY have to do with the application and practical revision of such programs? Probably nothing. He's kind of the person in the public eye. half of the nation just doesn't know who their senators or house representative is/are. So the president gets the finger pointed at him. And it's true that you don't see the results of the president's term immediately. It takes several years for you to see the result of his actions. Short of the immediate results of a war, of course, like what we're seeing now, but the economic effects still are delayed. So any president who is in office during a slump gets the blame unfairly, much of the time. The same goes for the president in office when things are going good. 2) As far as him being for big business and wanting rich to get richer and poor to get poorer, I kind of see that as a misunderstanding. He is for business in general, as most republicans are. The opportunity to take part in the free marketplace. Some people will take advantage of our ability to do that, but most won't. Life isn't fair, but in general most people get what they work for. The reality is, the job market isn't what it was 20 years ago, and we need to learn to adapt. Sticking our heads in the sand and hoping the government will take care of it isn't going to work. That's why I operate my own business now. I'm in control of my future. Crap happens, but I can't blame anyone else for my failures, and I get all the credit for what goes right. 3) Whoever posted about this before was right, things really aren't as bad as most people think, the real problem is that the media with its "non-biased" reporters, wants to give us the story that will sell. This equals death and disaster. No one wants to read or watch what's going right. That's boring. So, unfortunately, we get a negative slant to nearly every news story that comes out. I'm done now. Hopefully no one will be ticked off. :)
