Hide,,,,,,, why don't you change your own pads, it is real simple to do .. just by the pads at the dealer , i would advice to use Factory Honda pads......then if you go to the DIY section in this forum, there is a step by step write up on how to replace brake pads..

As for the maintenance i need to know the year and model of your car,,\\ different years , needs different maintenance

you should input year and model of your car on your signature so we all know what car you need help with ,and we don't have to ask the same question again

If your Honda is still under the warranty period it is...if you don't follow the Maintenance program then why even worry about your warranty..so if your car has warranty time left the yes...you should go by the words inside of it..

First off , the only repairs that you HAVE TO DO at a dealer is only the warranty work and you do it there because it is FREE..
You can pick and choose any shops to do the work on your car , and it WILL NOT void the warranty at all...I would have a shop that specializes on Hondas do the work,, I would not go to an all around shop ...First off they might not use good quality parts and when it comes to diagnostic they are a few steps behind ,

Having said so,,, It is important to do the maintenance work...

Minor service .......basically it is oil and filter change , tire rotation and chk all the fluids , chk car over

If you want to save money DO NOT , ask a shop to do a service , but brake it down

i will give you a schedule to follow ........

.every 3-3.5 k miles oil and filter change

every 7.5-10k, miles tire rotation

every 15k or once a year ..........air filter, cabin filter, AT fluid ,I know Honda calls for later but replace AT fluid every 15k.. use only HONDA ATF-Z1

every 30k.. on top of the 15k , also . brake fluid , tranny fuid ( if manual ,, )

45k ,, same as 15k ,,and replace coolant ,,,,,,,,,,replace coolant 30k after this so next time it would be at 75k miles , 105k etc etc

60k ,, same as 30k,, replace spark plugs , use only NGK plugs

your car does not need valve adjustment or fuel filter replacement ...

Air filter and ,cabin filter, and coolant you DO NOT have to use Honda parts , they are not that critical

Do you need to follow the maint schedule? IF you want your car to last 400K+ then yes

Do you need the dealer to do it...No but if you are not able to or willing to do the work, honda specialty shop or a dealer who you trust and is fair on pricing.

Im not sure, but I think they charge me $229 for the major maintainence.
Why you say that it is FREE??

If i need to check basic things like the tire and stuff, they wont charge me.
But when I talk about things in the engine, they will charge me $90 just for diagnosis.
Is it because I have already passed the drivetrain warranty?? what about others??
My car's mileage is 46000, and bought it new in 2004.

hello Hide.......what i actually said is that any warranty work is free of charge,, but since your car has 46k miles your car is out of most of the warranty work ,, there are certain things that Honda has extended the warranty on...

do not tell the shop that you want the service, brake it down. ask them to do the repair that i wrote up according to the mileage ,, it will be cheaper .

you can replace the air filter and cabin filter, real easy to do,, get them at Autozone or any import auto aprts,, those 2 you should replace once a year ..

so basically what is left over is the o/f , tranny fluid, tire rotation, coolant ... and brake fluid flush if it was not done at 30k..

the 90 dollars dealer wants to charge for diagnose is if you got the chk engine lite on, runnubility problem, electrical issues etc etc ..

One more question.
It says
FRONT BRAKES 2MM REAR BRAKES 5MM. **RECOMMENDATION**
(1) FRONT BRAKES WORN TO SENS OR $179.95
(2) BRAKE FLUID FLUSH AGE $84.95 MILA GE
(3) TRANSMISSION SERVICE MILAGE/DIRTY $44.95.

What does it mean??
To change the front brake pad, they charge me $179.95??
Is the transmission service = to the AT fluid you mean in the above thread??

Can I do all of these outside?? can the brake pad and fluid flush, and transmission fluid flush fix outside??

it means that they are saying that you need to replace the frt pads, tranny fluid and brake fluid flush...

179.95 ,, to replace frt pads is way way too much ,,unless they are going to resurface the rotors as well...

frt pads cost about 50-55 dollars from dealer, like i told you before installing them is real easy , go to the DIY section in this forum and read up on it ..

3 qts of ATF-Z1 is around 17 dollars ,, you might find another shop to do it cheaper,, buy the fluid from dealer and take it to another shop...

brake flush is about right as long as they flush and bleed the complete brake system..and not just suck out the old brake fluid, wipe clean the reservoir and fill it with new fluid ..

Ok...not to hijack this thread but.....

Deserthonda, does the maintence schedule you stated for the 2004 accord carry over to say the 2002 accords. I'm look at what I need done and that looks like a good list to follow.

hello brad.....same thing,,,,,,,,it is however a bit harder to replace the cabin filter in your car, you got to remove the glove box to get access to it ..
