According to Tom and Ray from Car Talk:
"Wind resistance increases as a square of the speed at which you're traveling. So, for example, at 70 mph, wind resistance is double what it is at 50 mph (70 squared is almost twice as much as 50 squared). That's murder on your mileage."
I've recently slowed down about 5 mph on my daily commute and noticed about a 2 mile per gallon difference on a 2000 Accord LX 4 cylinder automatic.

I have a 2007 Accord sedan 4cyl with about 24K miles. I have made one modification to my car and a few modifications to how I drive and I am getting 10% - 15% better mileage. I read an article about hypermilers. A handful of the things they do are easy and safe to incorporate.
- On my car, I increased the air pressure by 3 lbs. over listed pressure.
- I didn't drive aggressively to begin with, but I started to pay more attention to traffic and light conditions up ahead of me. I have been making more lights, coasting more and spending much less time getting zero miles to the gallon at stop lights. I accelerate a little more slowly and pay attention to the tach to determine the best speed at times (eg. lower RPMs under some road conditions at 48 MPH than 45 MPH).
- I also use the air conditioner a bit less and turn the fan speed up to stay comfortable. I only have the windows open at low speeds (35 or under).
- I don't start the car until I am ready with seat belt fastened and sun glasses on (daytime).
- I do pull-through parking to next space where possible. I no longer have to back up, stop, and then pull forward.
- I reduced my speed to posted speed limits or only a few above. I stay around 65-66 on 65 highways instead of 72.
Since I started this, my lowest MPG on a tank was 31.3 (approx. 40% Hwy). I have back-to-back tanks of 36 MPG and 35.8 MPG on 75% Hwy. Typically I was averaging around 27-28 all aroung (vs. 31-32 now) and 31-32 on 75% Hwy.
The best I had ever done before was 33.5 on a tank of 90% Hwy. Based on watching the fuel gauge these past two tanks, I have little doubt I could turn close to 38 on a 90% Hwy tank.
I figure I will save approx. 50-55 gallons a year using these techniques. And the longer I use them, the more they will become second nature.
Of course, your results may vary.

Just recently after reading an article a few months ago I started accelerating at an average pace and I shift between 3k-4k RPMS and gained an average of 1.5-2mpg (I check my economy all the time, it's the first sign that somethings about to go wrong as far as I'm concerned....)

I have a 2007 Honda Accord EX 4 dr/4 cyl auto, and I have been getting right at 18 mpg city and I want to know WTF? I have the correct air pressure (35) in my tires, which are 215/50/17s. I know the tire size affects the mileage but not this much! I am not heavy on the gas either. I was told that the engine has some special additives in the oil from the factory that could possibly cause this but I am not too sure. I got rid of a 2004 Eddie Bauer Explorer that was getting 16 mpg for this???? Anybody know anything about the new oil additive idea?

As the accord goes through the "break in" period it will increase in economy. How many miles are on it? How are you calculating your fuel economy? Do you stop and sit/idle at lights a lot? Are you driving the same routes that you were when you had your explorer?
The two bold questions are the most important.

It has 1,300 miles on it and yes, I do understand that a new engine is tight, but that tight? Not really on the long idling, approx. 5 miles to work one way, all city. About how many miles should it "loosen up"? Also my Honda service person says the 1st oil change isn't until 10K? Should I change it early or is there something to the "special additives" idea, and I should just leave it in til 10K? Am I expecting too much too soon? I will fill up my tank, run it till I need more, fill it up again, divide the gallons needed to fill it into the miles driven on the previous tank.

Exactly, unfortunately a lot of places have ethanol in all three grades. But, the ethanol actually creates more carbon emissions so it really doesn't clean the air.

Actually, if you use corn or sugar cane or some similar crop to make the ethanol, that carbon came from the air within the last year or so. Carbon from fossil fuels was taken out of the atmosphere millions of years ago, so you're adding it back.

Just got an '03 EX V6.Owner's manual says use preium.I am not particualrly car savy and so I ask you guys,what will be the big deal if I use regular?
