Thanks a bunch Falkore24.  So just opening that pipe up a bit without an intake will help, or do you mean along with an CAI/SRI?  How big do you suggest?  I will stay away from the TB Spacer.  Thanks again.

2-1/4" is best, or 2-1/2" .... if you do custom, you should include a resonator so it doesn't buzz later on if you upgrade the muffler.  I think a 24" or 27" would be good.  the larger or more, the better, but be aware that they cause a small bit of backpressure in order to smooth out the pulses.

I'm not saying that the intake and true exhaust don't help, but if you want it to be very quiet, the B-pipe is the way to go.  Another way to improve the intake restriction is to just remove the intake resonator that is in your bumper ..... that's a free upgrade and leaves you with a cold air setup.

Excellent.  Thanks for the advise/expertise.  It looks like the resonator could be a real pain to remove.  Does that involve removing the bumper, the outer wheel well, or can you remove the airbox to get to it??

You need to take off the bumper, which is just a few screws and a bunch of plastic push clips ... it's not that hard, but you're best doing it when it's warm so the plastic is pliable and doesn't break.  I usually use 2 flat screwdrivers to pull them up a bit and a small needlenose pliers like a pickle fork to pry the rest of the way.

I did a search and have been reading for about the last hour.  It sounds like I may just want to go with a SRI, and then alter my mid-pipe.  I'm not so much looking for a performance car, just looking for a little extra and improve gas mileage.  Thanks again for your info.

well you'll be getting more compression, which usually does not translate to gas savings... just fyi

Engine compression is fixed and a simple intake or exhaust mod cannot possibly change that.....bad information.  An SRI or CAI will not drop your MPG providing you keep your foot out of it. Drive hard & use more fuel, drive easy use less fuel, it's just that simple. I get 35 mpg on the highway @70 with the air conditioner on with a best of 37.9 with the A/C off.

I was under the impression that the colder air causes a higher compression rate, which necessitates a higher fuel consumption?
ie, more air needs a higher fuel mixture to combust properly?

obviously flooring it all the time will use more gas... but how can you refuse once you hear it roar like that? :)

i guess i might be wrong, but somehow it makes sense to me.. sorry if i'm giving false info

Alright, I'm not adding anything to mine, I will continue to get 28-29 mpg.  I've been reading about transmission horror stories, and I'm going to drive mine easier than ever now....

Spaz .... the intake reduces restriction upstream of the throttle body which allows the air to pick up speed quicker when you punch it .... that is why you get better throttle response.  Your compression idea only works in theory at an enact tuned frequency, but the intake mfgr.'s love to talk about airflow tuning and pressure pulses hitting at the moment that the valve opens.  Like I said, it's theory.  It may hold true at an exact rpm, but the engine doesn't hold any rpm for more than an instant.  Also, that exact rpm might see a hundredth of an inch (H2O column) pressure boost, which amounts to nothing when considered against the dynamics of fuel modulation and timing retard.

Ron .... any upgrade is going to decrease MPG because you are going to want to hit the gas harder.  The mid-pipe is the best bet to keep everything quiet, however it will get a touch louder and deeper if you decide to do it (nothing that will be annoying).  To take the pipe a bit further, you could upgrade the muffler to a Dynomax Super turbo which is basically a stock type, but adds guide vanes to improve the airflow by lowering the static pressure drop across the muffler.  --- I'd actually like to build that setup because I think it would work sweet and still be even quieter than the WS2 or SP2.

I'm debating slicing and gutting the muffler on my Scion, reconfiguring the internals and having a buddy weld it back together just to see how an idea of mine works .... For me, quiet power is the way to go.

Well I have a 2002 Honda Accord EX/V6 3.0...I recently added a AEM V2 CAI, flowmaster catback exhaust, and even thrown some 18's on it.  I never really paid attention to my gas mileage before any upgrades, so it couldn't have been too bad.
However..right now I am getting 300 miles using about 16 gallons of gas, and that is about 19 miles per gallon.  I'm not driving aggressively, I sit back going 75mpg with cruise control each way to work...and 90% of my driving is on the highway.  I don't quite understand that even though I am driving like a grandma and keeping it a steady speed that I am getting such low gas mileage..I was told that an exhaust and intake are supposed to improve or not affect your gas mileage...but they certainly should not decrease it.  I am supposed to be getting 25-30 highway, and 20-25 city.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

A couple of things peak my interest here, the first of which is your 18 inch rims, how heavy are they?  second when was the last time you did any maintence work like spark plugs?

Well I have 18" Zinik Minardi black rims that weight 22.5 lbs per.  As for the last time the spark plugs were changed..they haven't been changed since the car was new, I bought the car 8 months ago.  I was told that the spark plugs wouldn't have that much of a difference in the gas mileage..and if they were bad then the check engine light would obviously come on. I just bought new spark plugs last night and I'm about to put them in now, so I guess we'll see.

The only other thing I can think of is that I have two 12" P3 subs in a ported box chillin in the trunk, but I doubt that could reduce the gas mileage that drastically.

I just drove back and forth to work for 45miles driving just going 65 mph with cruise control, windows up, ac off and I still use a quarter tank..its terrible.
