Any extra weight hurts MPG.  Larger rims hurt MPG.  Performance tires hurt MPG.  Bad plugs hurt MPG (chances are they're fine though).  Catback hurts MPG.

Spaz .... I'm home on the 18th.  I get on here still, but not regularly like I can at my NYC office.

While everyone is spending close $4 a gallon, i figured out how to spend about $3.60 (10% less)

Here is how:    Slow down on the highway by 5-10 mph.

Ok ....maybe i pay the same for gas that everyone else does ...but i have managed to increase my MPG by almost 10% (basically saving me 10%).    I have always driven about 70-75 mph on the highway.    By doing so, i have average about 24 mpg highway/city.   Over the last two tankfuls, i began experimenting and have averaged 26.1 and 26.5 mpg.   I am careful to NOT accelerate too abruptly.  Just slowly go through your gears.   I stay to the right and set the cruise control at 65 mph instead of my previous 73 (8 mph reduction).     For my 18 mile cruise to work, this works out to about 3 minutes of extra drivetime (no big deal).   I also read that for every 5 mph over 55, you lose about 1mpg

You can look at it this way:   I am now adding about 30 extra miles for every tankful of gas, or saving about $5 every tankfull

If you cant afford a new car, just improve the gas mileage on your existing car.   Slow down, overinflate your tires a bit, get a tuneup, run synthetic oil.
