So a month or so ago I was leaving a gas station and this kid asked me if I would give hi a ride to a nearby bar (about 1/2 mile away), I was driving my 81 civic station wagon at the time and he says he'll give me a dollar for the ride (like I really care). So he gets in the car and instantly I smell the overpowering odor of alchol, I probably would have failed a breathalizer just from breathing the fumes... So as we're leaving the gas station he says "roll gangsta" (okay imagine skinny white Montana boy and you can probably see what my face looked like when he said that.... WTF written all over it) and this kid starts pouring out his life travles from somewhere in washington to Montana... So we make it to the bar without incident and he's like where ya going from here? uh, home.. a few blocks away.... so he replies with "oh okay, hey you got a dollar you can spare?" um.... no. I'm just wondering what was going through this guys head.... I feel sorry for that bartender.... Needless to say that's one of the last hitchikers I'll ever pick up (I've got a few other entertaining hitch hiker stories like this already...) but I'm left with one big question.... why on earth did he say "roll ghetto?" and where is my dollar?

rule of thumb, never pick up hitchhikers, i never have, i never will, just for the fact you dont know whats going through their mind, but yeah, sorry, dont have any entertaining stories, just have stories of drunken friends doing very stupid things

Yeah, too bad that won't happen to me because I live in a town of 5 thousand people. The only possible hitchhikers would be someone(THAT I KNOW) who needed a ride home from school or work.

Perhaps he was going for "Let's roll gangsta?" Then it would make sense...sort of.

How easily taken in we can be.
About 10 years ago now, I was travelling up from the Midlands (UK) to the North West where I live. Worked away from home then. I stopped at a services on the Motorway got a quick bite to eat and just got back in my car when some guy with a bag was looking around the cars parked. Saw me and asked for a lift to the next services.

He too told me his life story, how unlucky he had been. He told me he was homeless, I had to believe him but he looked reasonably well dressed. He had been down to the Midlands for a job interview. The interview was arranged by the Dept, of Health & Social Services. He was hitch hiking because he had no money for train/bus fares which was odd as the DHSS would of paid for this. Too late by then as we were back on the motorway and there is no stopping apart for emergencies as it is illegal. We got to the services and he asked me if I had any money to lend him for the rest of his journey home. He said I should leave my name and address and he would send me a cheque.
I got concerned at this point and told him I had no cash on me. He insisted I should of had a card I could use at an ATM. Eventually he gave up wished me well!

I do not even want to think about what would of happened had I got him money and left an address

Not picked a hitch hiker up since!
