Newbie Q: Oil Pan Gasket replacement - 6/1/2005 9:11:33 AM    mcrisost1999   Posts: 4 Joined: 6/1/2005 Status: offline Hi, all. Newbie here, so be gentle Brought my '93 Accord in the shop for some brake service. Man says I need a new oil pan gasket - old one is sticking out of the pan in places and leaking oil. Charges my $35 for the gasket, $180 for labor. Is this something I can do myself and save some $$$? I have a hydraulic jack and stands, but have yet to try changing the oil myself. And a Chiltons Will I need a torque wrench? Any tips greatly appreciated, TIA. Post #: 1

My oil pan is stripped, so the bolt can't tighten to stop the oil leak. Im leaking about a 1 quart every 3-4 days. I purchased a oil pan off ebay, i should install it withing a week. RE: Newbie Q: Oil Pan Gasket replacement - 7/10/2005 5:13:39 PM    1HOTTSHOT   Posts: 32 Joined: 6/25/2005 Status: offline Just got a oil pan gasket from local store, it olnly cost me 16 dollars, so go to the nearest one and buy one for the same amount, if your unsure of your mechanical inclineness, may you should have the shop do it, or if you have a buddy that is good with engines, ask him if he'll do it for like 110 dollars or something. But dont let yourself get ripped by paying 30 $ for the gasket. Buy one from autozone, take it to them, if they say they wont take the part, tell them that you want them to finish whatever work there doing, and your gonna take the car somewhere else then. Hope i posted this in time to help you. Our gasket will be the same, accords from 1990 through 1997 had the same oil pan and gaskets. good luck. (in reply to Patrick) Post #: 4
