I have a black 1996 Accord.  The state laws allow for:

STATE              KY
FRONT  SIDES    35%
REARSIDES        18%
BACK WINDOW   18%

Would this be dark enough for my car, or should I try to find someone to put on darker tint?  I'm looking for the best appearance, and I'm thinking that a darker tint would look better on a black car.  Any suggestions or advice?

My 07 is getting 15% today.  I live in Lafayette.  I requested 20, but the installer carried 15, and stated that the color of it makes it look closer to 20%.  I will post pics of this when complete.

Legal limit here is 35 on the front, but I have had 20% before and havent had a problem.  I think enforcement of that depends on a lot of other things...

Where did you have it done at?  A dealer? A local tint shop?

Local tint / detail shop.  There is a place called The Auto Detailer that I have worked with previously, and they have done a really good job.  I am working with a new shop this time, was recommended by a friend.  For $350 I am getting:

Wash / Wax / Scotchguard / Tint 07 Accord
Complete Deatil of 03 M3 (wash, clay, wash, wax, dress, interior, etc.)

Was pretty happy with the deal.  I wanted to make sure I got a good coat of wax on the accord right away.

The best way to find a good shop is to ask around.  That is how I found out about the previou shop.  The dealer where I bought the car sent me there.

35% are not dark at all. Either get 10% or 5% all the way around. 10% are less dark and you can see out at night perfectly. With 5%s you can still see just less. Don't get 0%s I had them on my last car, couldn't see out at night.

$350 for tint and detail? that's a great deal if it's a full detail....  In my opinion tint also has a lot to do with the type being used, I'd say 15% is fine for most applications and 25% is dark enough to drive me insane when driving at night because you won't be able to see anything.... I've always figured 15-20% is plenty... Dark enough to pick your nose without anyone really knowing what you are doing but light enough to see out clearly...

agreed.  Seeing around corners with 20% at night can be a challenge.  Especially in a neighborhood where kids are running around all over the place...

Depends on the shop.  Most would, but the stipulation would be that if you had any issues with the law, its your responsibility.

Here is a photo of my car with tint (15%).  Lighting isnt great, as it was flourescent, in the shop.  Weather here has been warm but shitty lately.

I have heard of shops that will put darker than the legal limit as long as you pay cash, so there isnt any way for it to come back on them.  No invoice, no real proof that they put the tint on your windows.

A large local shop wouldn't tint below the legal limit, but I found a small outfit that had no qualms about doing whatever I wanted—and I paid by credit card. I chose 20% all around and am happy with it. Limo tint looks cool, but you might take out a few pedestrians at night if you aren't careful. I wouldn't be concerned about being pulled over for 20% unless the cops were after you for something else, but darker tint could get you into trouble.

I have a new graphite pearl, and was thinking about tinting around.  I wanted a % that would "blend" into the body without being too dark.  I just wanted a little color to it.  What does everyone recomend for that?

35% may not be bad, but there are other colors too.  Black is typical, as was shown in the pics of my car, but you can get gray or brown, along with others.  Gray may blend in real well with the graphite.  ANyone here have pics of gray tint?

if you wanted something other than the standard black just ask the shops, I know that they have different colors, I've seen one that fades from white to black that looks pretty nice but it's all about what you want to do, if you plan on introducing some additional colors to the car on the rims for example then having the tint match looks good, like white rims with blue lettering then a blue faded to black tint....
