Steering wheel shakes...

Guest -> Steering wheel shakes... (6/12/2005 12:56:56 PM)

Hi again... I've got a '94 Accord EX... when I get above 50 MPH my steering wheel shakes and the car pulls a little to the right.. Is this an alignment problem, or brake/bearing problem??

I have replaced both bearings, CV joints, rotors, brakes, and upgraded up to 16" wheels. I have not yet got an alignment...

Thanks.

Have the wheels balanced and have it alligned is the way I would go.

I don't have the shaking problem so much, but after a full alignment my car still pulls slightly to the left. I hit a curb last winter, um sliding around corners :-), and ended up bending the LF lower control arm. I had to replace the lower control arm, lower ball joint, stabilizer link, and drive axle (bad CV joint, different story). Still after fixing it myself and then getting it aligned it still pulls. Could I have bent a tie rod in the steering or something. I know when I hit the curb I let go of the steering wheel to take stress off the steering system.... any ideas?

Finch,, the people that did the alignment by the readings they should know if there are any more  damaged suspension parts.. if the alignment is all in specs ( toe, camber, caster) and car still pulls, switch the frt tires side to side and test drive it

let us know

did you try flipping the front tires?   bad tire can cause it to pull.

If you have already done the bearings, cv joints and such...

All you need is a wheel alignment, front and back...and check your tires as well.

Same thing happened to me...

Just had a full alignment 2 weeks ago. Can't exactly switch the front tires as I have directional racing tires (came with the wheels, not my choice). I can't visually see if anything is bent but my mechanic noticed I bent the control arm the first time and checked it when I returned for the alignment. Just thought of this now: I has to be within the steering system because the car still pulls when I use my higher treadwear tires for roadtrips...

I have more serious suspension issues to deal with before I go to college in a few weeks... thanks for all the help.

were the tires balanced recently?  a bad tire will be nearly impossible to balance.

finch13 -> RE: Steering wheel shakes... (7/25/2007 10:47:16 AM)

Yes, all 12 of the tires have been balanced. Still pulls the same amount, same side, with any of my tires on it.

you my also want to check your radius rod on the side you hit, you may have moved it from it's seating or loosened up the lock nut, letting the the bushing give.
