my therory will always be every 3k to 3.5k. Wither the car has 20,000 miles or it has 150,000.  Its worth changing the oil that much when a car is the second biggest invesment in your life next to a house.

So, why does Honda recommend changing oil when the oil life monitor says to?

Once car is over 3 years or 36k miles  IT'S YOUR BABY .
trust me , it wil be the BEST 25-30 dollars you will ever spend to  do 1 or 2 exttra oil changes per year ..

Three sludge builders:

Short trip driving especially in cold weather.

Allowing engine to idle, (over five minutes with A/C on),  in hot weather.

Operation beyond 3500/4000 mile range.

Most vehicles are each driven under a different condition.  Some may be needed to be changed less than a 1000 and others may be run past 6000?

Yeah, Im not too keen on that oil life meter either.

I am a huge believer in the 3000 mile rule and thats how often Ill be changing mine.

I have always used synthetics (Mobil 1) and Mobil 1 filters but I was thinking of using conventional this time around because it costs twice as much per oil change and I have yet to keep a vehicle longer than 5 years.  With this one I just plan on taking it to my Honda dealer which has an Express Service dept just for oil changes and such.

I dunno, I wouldnt be suprised if at 3000 miles you could find me in Walmart picking up a 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 5W20!  I compete in car audio competitions and while at shows during the summer, my car does idle a lot.  Up to an hour while running the A/C!  Maybe synthetic would be better.

Honestly tho, even if I do stick with conventional this time around I still very well may continue to use the Mobil 1 filter.  98% down to 10 microns is pretty impressive and better than any other brand I can find.

5W20 is not that hard to find.  WalMart, Autozone, Advance Auto all have 5W20 from all the major brands.

7K on a car that gets driven with more than 10% city driving is a no no I think. I usually change oil every 5K and I still have plenty of life left in it. (I do regular SOS analysis) but then again I drive 99% freeway non stop each way to work :P

I can't believe a good synthetic would wear out in 3500 miles (but I don't really know). Has anyone ever had their oil tested at a lab? If you're going to change every 3k you might as well use a good quality dyno oil.

The more I drive this thing the more I love it.

This is my first Honda and my first car since 1995.  Ive been driving trucks since then and had forgotten how much fun it is to drive!!

While its hard to get used to not having all the room, this car is still brilliant.  Everything is right where I would put it.  Its very comfortable and fun to drive and I love how everything looks and feels like pure quality.  Offers a lot of peace of mind.

I have a feeling, Ill be buying Hondas for a while now.

Hi all. On my 2005 Accord EX V6, this is my third oil change I am on with Mobil 1 5w20 (with OEM FILTECH FILTERS). It is the first time I had to add a half quart of oil before my next oil change. I have put on 5k miles since my last oil change. Car is 99% hwy miles with OCI of 7500 miles since switching to synthetic. (Had a UOA performed and at 7500, oil was still good, but would not drive any further). Any one else have issue with oil comsumption with Mobil 1? BTW, prior to switching to Mobil 1, I used Castrol GTX 5w20 Dino. No oil comsumption while on dino oil. Car currently has 48K miles (in two years).  Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
